Today we’d like to introduce you to Sebastian Carreño.
Hi Sebastian, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Driven by a passion for fashion, I moved to Los Angeles under the guise of attending university, seeking opportunities beyond my small desert hometown. After facing initial rejections due to lack of experience, I landed a position at Rachel Comey, where I managed outbound shipments. Two years later, I left the role to pursue growth, just as my school discontinued its government funding and course offerings. I then became an assistant to stylist Chais Dennis, which opened the door for me to establish myself independently. Since then, I’ve worked with celebrities, influencers, and a diverse range of clients in the fashion industry.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey hasn’t been easy. I’ve sacrificed sleep, pushed through exhaustion, and faced countless obstacles to get where I am today. But every challenge has been worth it. I’ve come to realize that growth is constant — there’s never a day that goes by without learning something new, whether about the world or the fashion industry. This path hasn’t been smooth, and that’s okay. It’s shaped me, strengthened me, and reminded me that passion and persistence will always lead the way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a fashion stylist specializing in curating looks for magazines, celebrities, and individuals attending high-profile events. What sets me apart is not just my eye for style, but the deeper connection I have with creativity itself. Growing up, I was never the “cool kid” — often feeling alone, overlooked, and searching for a place to belong. Styling became my escape, my form of self-expression, and a way to shape a world I felt connected to.
For me, loneliness birthed creativity — a quiet space where I found beauty in imperfection and power in vision. That perspective informs everything I do today. I’ve made countless sacrifices to get here, turning down distractions and choosing commitment even when no one was watching. I’m proud of the path I’ve taken — not just for the work I create, but for the resilience it took to keep going. That, to me, is the most beautiful part of the journey.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my most cherished memories is walking to the park from our Section 8 housing as a child, unaware of the weight of the world around me. Simple moments—like going to the laundromat, folding clothes, and finding joy in the smallest things—still stay with me. Another memory I hold close is dancing with my grandmother to old Spanish music from the 1950s playing on her worn radio. There was something magical about those moments—filled with love, laughter, and a sense of safety. Growing up, my mother and grandmother were my anchors. Their presence, strength, and warmth shaped the way I see the world and continue to inspire the work I create today.
