Life & Work with Scoli Bone of North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scoli Bone.

Hi Scoli, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Southern California, after high school I spent 15years or so wandering around Northern California, the Pacific Northwest, and Minnesota as a sponsored snowboarder until a handful of injuries resulting in surgery, ending that career path for me.
Three years ago I moved to Los Angeles to work in Television as a background actor and PA on shows like “911-Lonestar” and “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew”. Then the film strike happened and I was out of a job..
I bought a guitar at Sam Ash, since then it’s been pretty much day in day out writing lyrics and playing guitar.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I didn’t know there were any smooth roads in Los Angeles haha. Life has highs and lows, in my case there have been extreme highs and treacherous lows. At one point, I was living in a five bedroom house with a pool on top of Mount Washington, at another point I was living in a car with my dog, but throughout this venture, the one constant has always been music, whether listening or writing, music has always been an outlet for me to express myself in ways I struggle to do so in conversation

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Musician.
I do vocals, song write, and play guitar. I never really thought about writing music until my snowboard career ended. I always loved to write, but consistently struggled in English classes through all my years of school. Junior year in high school I took a creative writing class where I learned that I wasn’t bad at English, I just didn’t like the rules and other technical bullshit surrounding the heart of it..the unlimited power to create.
Right now, I am working on a psych rock/ haunting blues album, of which a few singles are already out on all streaming services. Last summer I wrote a country album and played shows all over Hollywood and Los Angeles with a band and as a solo act. It was my first time leading a band, writing all the songs, and booking the gigs.
I noticed country music was really popular and figured if I wanted to break into the scene quickly and get booked for gigs, country music would do that for me at the time, and it did. It felt like boot camp in a way, I came up with about 10 songs, put a band together, and played 10-15 shows up and down California in less than 6 months.
I think my career in snowboarding has helped in my music tremendously. snowboarding is mostly failure and falling, getting up and trying again. For years. Decades.
I reached the level of success not because I was talented, but because I worked harder, went faster, and did psycho shit no one else would. This earned me the nickname “Sketchy Scoli”. If someone built up a jump or wanted to do something hectic; more times than not my phone would ring and the person on the other line would ask me to come guinea pig it, and I would haha.
Knowing what it takes to succeed, and having the will to follow through with the hard work to be successful snowboarding gave me a mindset that 100% contributes to music and being in a new element and confident, which I am extremely grateful for.

What matters most to you?
That my dog, his name is “Bruce Willis”, likes me and thinks I’m cool…
Also, the impact I leave on people, and that it hopefully is a positive one. I hope to leave this place a little better than I found it, with a little more art for people to enjoy.

But mostly my dog.
