Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Rivers
Hi Savannah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My love for singing began when I was four years old, and my sister and I were playing a karaoke game on our Nintendo WII. I thought my sister was so good and wanted to be just like her. I then went on to join the choir as the youngest person. Since then, I’ve been in Choirs and a cappella groups, and now I have my own band, which has been such an exciting and eye-opening experience. My journey led me to songwriting when my parents got a divorce. I was ten, and reading and writing acted as an escape. I could create any story or circumstance I wanted and just write about what was going on in my life. It was, and still is, my escape.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Music has always been the most constant thing in my life. During my adolescent and teen years, it was my therapy, and I still feel the same way now. In 7th grade, my mental health hit an all-time low, and I completely stepped away from music and convinced myself that I wasn’t good enough and that it was foolish of me to think I could pursue a music career. I decided that I was going to be a doctor for two months before I had a conversation with my aunt that re-lit entirely my passion for music. It hasn’t been blown out since, and it never will be.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an alternative R&B singer/songwriter. My fusion of singer/songwriter journal-like lyrics with ethereal production techniques and R&B melodies sets me apart. One of my favorite things is blending genres, whether lyric techniques, melodies, or production. When it comes to exploring vocal techniques, I’ve been making music recently where I explore using my raspiness and breathiness, and I’m very excited for you all to hear! One of my proudest achievements is my first single, “reciprocate,” inspired by moments I felt unseen. The final product allowed me to express my emotions in a genuine and groovy way. My most recent single, “CHANGES,” is a song about embracing the change in your life instead of running from it. It was initially an R&B demo, and we later decided to fuse it with Afro-beats, and it came out perfect!
What makes you happy?
I have found a new love for Film! My favorite Film from last year was Poor Things. I loved the score, and I love analyzing film scores because they truly make such an impact on the viewer’s experience without most people noticing. My favorite film scorer is Hans Zimmer. Classic.
This has made me want to pursue writing music for TV and Film.
