Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a product manager working at a leading Software company. However, my passion for art has been a constant thread throughout my life. From a young age, I was captivated by drawing and calligraphy, which allowed me to express myself creatively. But as I navigated the demands of the IT industry, I found myself drifting away from those artistic pursuits.
The turning point came in January 2022, when I unexpectedly lost my mother to cancer. Her sudden passing left me grappling with profound grief, and my anxiety worsened to the point where I struggled to even steady my hands. Seeking a way to cope, I turned to art once again—this time, exploring online classes in various styles of calligraphy and wood carving. What began as a challenge gradually evolved into a form of meditation for me, where my hands and mind worked in harmony to create something beautiful.
Through this creative process, I transformed my grief into a tangible form of expression. My mother, who always encouraged me to follow my artistic passion, would be proud to see how I have channeled my emotions into art. In this way, I find solace, healing, and connection to a love of creativity that will always be a part of me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Pursuing a creative path is undoubtedly challenging. It requires not only the discovery of your own unique style but also the ability to consistently present your work to an audience. From the beginning, I was driven by a desire to create something truly customized and one-of-a-kind. When I first ventured into designing accessories, it became a journey of trial and error, where each mistake was a lesson. I pushed myself to learn extensively through online resources, constantly refining my skills and expanding my knowledge.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Khatashy is a new style of calligraphy derived from the authentic art of traditional Iranian calligraphy. This style has its own distinct character, form, and rules.
The main characteristic of Khatashy is that the conventional structure of Persian writing is altered: words are written as separate, individual letters. Khatashy represents a philosophical movement inspired by the essence of human existence. This is why it stands apart from all previous calligraphy styles, which have traditionally been based on aesthetic principles and formal rules.
The founder of this style in Iran is Dr. Alireza Malekzadeh.
What sets my work apart is how I transform this expressive art form into custom, wearable pieces. I design jewelry based on my calligraphy, turning each artwork into something tangible, beautiful, and one-of-a-kind. I take pride in offering something that can’t be replicated—each piece tells a story, and no one else in the world will have the same design. That individuality, that fusion of emotion, art, and craftsmanship, is what I’m most proud of.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice for finding a mentor or building a strong creative network is to actively follow artists whose work truly resonates with you. Surround yourself—virtually or in person—with creators who inspire you, not just aesthetically but emotionally. Let their journeys and techniques push you to explore new directions in your own work.
Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Embrace new experiences and experiment with different styles or mediums. For me, the most meaningful connections have come from engaging with artists whose work I connect with on a deeper level. That authenticity fosters real growth and opens the door to learning, collaboration, and inspiration.
