Life & Work with Samantha Patil

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Patil.

Hi Samantha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Travel has been part of my life before I can remember. In fact, my parents recently shared I was just 6 months old when I took my first international flight. Travel has always been important to my parents. My mom was a travel agent early in her career and my dad would travel 3-4 weeks a month for work when my sister and I were growing up. So perhaps it was inevitable that I would catch the travel bug so young.

I still have memories of our family travels from my childhood, where I’d befriend kids in other countries and play all afternoon. Oftentimes we didn’t speak the same language, but we’d spend all day doing what kids do best, playing and communicating in other ways. Through these experiences, I learned early on that we’re all so much more alike than we are different. It’s my belief that the more we travel, meet new people, explore new places, and understand different cultures, the better off we’d all be.

After 10+ traveling the world helping brands like Dollar Shave Club and Snapchat launch and grow their marketing strategies overseas, I started Well Traveled. With Well Traveled, we’re creating a modern brand built on trust and community to help today’s travelers navigate the increasingly complex and frustrating travel landscape. We’ve built an incredible membership community, content platform and network of hotel partners — and we’re just getting started.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of my favorite quotes on this topic is from John Foley (founder of Peloton) when asked what he felt were the most important traits in an entrepreneur and he said “the spirit of loving adversity and loving a challenge” — I think that’s pretty spot on. I am a problem solver and I love taking big, messy problems and making them better. There’s so much opportunity in the travel space for innovation and I’m really excited about the work we’re doing, obstacles and all.

We launched Well Traveled in the midst of the global pandemic so safe to say there has been plenty of challenges in our short time as a company. Thinking about where we started and where are now, I’m so proud of our team for how far we’ve come!

Well Traveled is a club for travel lovers. We’re a female-founded company that’s elevating how we discover, plan and book travel by tapping into the power of community and human connection.

We help you uncover recommendations for spots to eat, places to sleep and things to do with real reviews from fellow members who share your travel style. If you’re someone who’s fed up with sites like Yelp and TripAdvisor, who’s constantly thinking about your next adventure and interested in connecting with fellow lovers of leisure, we built this club for you.
