Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Henry.
Hi Sam, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started in music around five years old when I began singing in church and taking piano lessons. Church continued to give me the platform to grow as an artist, and I began performing in the Boise music scene around 18. Since then, I’ve played dozens of venues here, started a successful band who I’ve recorded in Nashville with, and began releasing original music!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. Although it is my dream, it is also my work, which proves to be a challenge – especially in a small town like Boise. Money is always a challenge, but I’d rather pinch pennies doing what I love than chasing a dollar and missing out on my dream.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work as a singer/songwriter and performer in Boise, Idaho. I write songs for my band that we perform live and record, and I am known for being the dreamer and writer in my band and friend circles. Right now, I am most proud of our 6 songs original EP that we recorded in Nashville and are fully releasing on October 2nd. This includes a music videos, t-shirts, hardcopy CDs, and online releases. What sets me apart from others, I think, is that I’m not afraid to take the path less traveled. Sometimes I ask myself why I’m pursuing this dream, but it’s because I don’t want to look back wishing that I had. I continue to work towards reaching more people from bigger stages and impacting people the way I have been impacted by other people’s music. That’s what keeps me going.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Good luck has brought me to my band members, to the next hot venue, to the next song idea, etc.
