Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Harrell.
Hi Robert, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey in marketing began in Washington, DC as a talent booker for Radio One under then supervisor and mentor Ebony McMorris. From there I went on work independently with R&B singer Chrisette Michelle for a year. That led me to moving to Los Angeles and as they say, the rest is history.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No journey career-wise or personal is ever smooth. My greatest struggle has been self-doubt and feeling inadequate. It’s been a journey and still is to understand and love myself. We live in a social media-driven society and easily to get lost in self-awareness in comparison to others on social media. As a mental health advocate, therapy was a safe space for me. Therapy gave me permission to love myself and embrace my flaws. I understand now that I belong in every room I enter. The greatest lesson I’ve learned over the last couple of years is loving myself and being kind to me.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In my current role I lead targeted marketing strategy, special events, and inclusion initiatives. I am responsible for providing strategic guidance and materials to aid the development and execution of fully integrated marketing campaigns to increase awareness and engagement.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
During the pandemic, I got certified in Digital Marketing at Cornell University. I found that it not only made me stand out competitively as a marketer but that it taught me valuable skills on how to reach diverse consumers and conduct international business.
