Life & Work with Rob Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Moore.

Rob Moore

Hi Rob, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began playing guitar at the age of 13, and it all started with lessons with my neighbor at the time. He was into classical and metal guitar, and I was into metal as well, so that really worked out well! I was initially influenced to pick up the guitar after listening to Black Sabbath (the song) for the first time at age 9, but my parents thought guitar would be a phase like a video game or something, but I kept nagging, and eventually, they took me for lessons, and I never stopped. I got really into Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Yngwie J. Malmsteen, and AC/DC at age 9 or so and was always into hard rock and metal. After years of playing, I decided to audition for Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, and was thankfully accepted. I completed my studies under the “ShredLord” Joe Stump. I’m currently active as a solo artist with Ben Cote Band and the Hirsh Gardner project!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Generally, the road has been alright; there is lots of wanting to give up, that I can say for sure, but listening to something/someone that inspires me or, these days, going for a good, long run also helps me snap back into the right mindset.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I like to think of my specialty as shred guitar/neoclassical metal! I did move across the country (I’m originally from South Texas) to study with Joe Stump, the world-renowned neoclassical metal/shred/metal guitarist, so I’d like to think of that as being my specialty as well. I’d say right now, I’m most proud of just having established my first solo record coming out on Lion Music, a legendary progressive/metal label that has released some of my favorite music and worked with some of my favorite artists of all time. I think what I’m also known for is playing fast and just never stopping, never compromising, and getting things done as I imagine them. And a thing that sets me apart is that, as far as I’ve seen, I’m the second left-handed shredder!

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory was going home from school in the 6th grade and going through my dad’s record collection and putting on Scorpions, Judas Priest, and AC/DC records!
