Life & Work with Reina of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reina .

Reina

Hi Reina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I decided to become a Drag Queen in 2016 and I started performing in 2017. I am blessed to say I am a well rounded professional Drag Queen today. My background as a kid in the system and professional figure skating for a decade as a minor really helped me use dance as a tool for expression. Entertaining in Drag reminds me and is that same tool for me as an Adult. My passion for the Art and it’s importance to my life and those around me has made incredible impact from making someone’s day to being a political stance within itself by being who I am authentically. Representation for Latinx and Queer people every time I step on a stage and showcasing my communities Talent is my Drag, through my dance and fashion.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road. Putting in the work as a beginning artist was a lot when i first started. Competing through many competitions and doing a lot of free work is how i started to make a name for myself. Many others who doubted me and my talent within my own Drag community didn’t want to see me reach success, afraid of future Drag gigs to be taken from them to the next big thing was always a struggle due to the lack of opportunities at the time. Networking one of my strong suits and helped me become the Queen I am today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Drag Queen. I am an all around Entertainer. I can go from doing impersonations to doing 10 cartwheels and 25 spins and dips in the next performance. Bringing a heat into my high energy and captivating audiences is what I am known for. I am most proud of my drag child Joella. Through them I have shared all I know and seeing their success makes me know that sharing love and knowledge will keep the Art alive. What sets me apart from others is that I am such a Versatile Queen in this business. I can Host, Dance, Act, Sew, give different styles of Drag all while making it my own speaks volumes of the versatility I hold and definitely always leave an impact in any room I step into by being visible as a Drag Queen.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I like the opportunities Los Angeles provides, you never know who’m you’re speaking with and the hidden doors that lie ahead of you. Going out and being seen is a pro within itself and that’s why Networking is so important in this industry and Los Angeles is the perfect place for that. What i dislike about the city is the traffic. A drag queens worst nightmare all while running on “Drag Time” to arrive promptly anywhere and running into LA traffic now becomes “LATE” which professionalism is what I want showcase and present as a Drag Queen to show the world that we too contribute as a job, not just a hobby.
