Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Woodbridge
Rachel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My artistic journey began in childhood, where art was really my happy place. I was in Gifted & Talented art programs throughout my school years, and I used coloring books to regulate my emotions without even realizing it. I was a pretty rebellious high schooler and went against my parents advice to apply to art colleges, but sure enough, after my 2nd year at a liberal arts school (where I spent all my free time taking art classes), I transferred to Parsons. Throughout college and after, I worked in various creative roles in the fashion industry and beyond, eventually leading me to serve as the Creative Director to a luxury concierge company. After moving to LA from NY and embracing full-time motherhood during the pandemic, I rediscovered the power of creativity as a coping tool for my toddler (who’s almost 5 now). Inspired by my mom’s decades of experience as an early childhood educator, I volunteered to facilitate weekly art workshops at my daughter’s preschool. The benefits I saw (both physically and mentally) for the kids in her school were so rewarding, I just knew I had to continue on this creative path. That’s what led me to create ARTWELL, an initiative dedicated to blending artistic expression with mental wellness.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s always a learning curve when you are starting a new business. The biggest struggle is feeling overwhelmed with all of my ideas and trying to take it one step at a time. I’m hyper-organized and a perfectionist, and I’ve learned that you just have to go for it— sometimes it’s ok to be “good enough.” You have to start somewhere!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
ARTWELL brings creativity and wellness together through the magic of art. I am most known for creating fun and unique creative experiences – these aren’t paint and sip or instructional art lessons, or a crafting / DIY company (those are great services, by the way, that’s just not me!). I like to think of myself more as a facilitator where I show you a technique or material and encourage you to explore on your own. I really want people to make time and space to be creative. It’s so good for your mental health. For kids, I’m known for my series focused on iconic artists. I introduce the kids to an artist and then show them their work and unique techniques to spark inspiration. Then, the kids use similar materials, techniques, shapes, or colors to create their own artwork.
I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve created a functioning business that I’m passionate about —it’s so rewarding and I’m having so much fun! And as all moms know, taking a risk like this while caring for 2 kids is a big accomplishment.
What makes ARTWELL unique is its emphasis on blending art with wellness. Instead of solely focusing on artistic techniques, I aim to incorporate wellness into the creative process, demonstrating how art can serve as a powerful coping skill… not just for kids; adults, too! Having personally faced mental health challenges, I want to offer both kids and adults a screen-free, welcoming space to express themselves and find relief through creativity.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
