Life & Work with Rachel Carlat

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Carlat.

Hi Rachel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
During the pandemic, I was one of the many individuals who got laid off. Unlike those who were disappointed I was grateful. For me, it was a blessing in disguise which motivated me to become a life coach specifically focusing on Self-love. I was working a job that ultimately wasn’t fulfilling for me and I dreamt of the day I would be able to quit and focus on my passion. I’d already had my podcast called 365 Ways to Love Yourself, but I wanted to get into life coaching to further my career. Within 2 months or being unemployed I was certified! Unofficially I had been life coaching my friends and peers for years so this felt like it was in alignment with my calling. A year into life coaching I decided I wanted to continue to share my gifts with people in a way that was more tangible. One day as I was meditating, spirit gave me the word “radiate” as I sat with this, I brainstormed and started writing it out.

Then it became “raediate” which broken into 3 parts (rae-di-ate) “rae” is what my friends/family/peers call me, it’s who I am, “di” stands for divine intervention which is what I was acting on in this moment and “ate” means the act thereof. It all came together as “ I am the act thereof divine intervention”. That’s where my jewelry business began. As a self-love life coach, I wanted to curate a brand that focuses on self-love & inspiration. I chose each name of the jewelry piece that held spiritual meaning and wrote out affirmations for each specific item. So while you’re wearing your jewelry, you are reminded of who you are, what you stand for and believe in, and what you are looking to manifest is possible. I attend many different pop-ups in the greater LA area selling my pieces, and every time I share the meaning behind the brand it’s well received. It’s truly who I am, and what I intend as my calling in life, to be a light in this world and to inspire others to find their light to raediate!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Entrepreneurship by no means is easy. I have done everything by myself, designing logos, investing everything I’ve earned, social media marketing, email marketing, photography, being the model & the creative designer, sourcing, trial and error, etc. There have been so many bumps in the road, but they’ve all taught me valuable lessons. The hours, the blood sweat and tears are all prevalent but in the end, it’s worth it. When people who support me tell me how much the brand resonates with them I know that I’m doing exactly what I’m supposed to.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a multi-faceted entrepreneur. I am a mother first which is my favorite title of them all. I am self-love life coach, a podcast host, and a business owner. I’m proud of all of my accomplishments because success wasn’t always in the cards for me. I had a very challenging childhood & people who grew up the way I did don’t make it past high school without being on drugs, locked up, or in the streets. My resilience has set me apart and allowed me to keep climbing the heights of ambition.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Whew! Yes! I am definitely more of a risk taker these days. So about a year ago, my employer who laid me off during the pandemic asked me to return to work on my terms and I was able to work from home. So I accepted the role as an additional means of income. The job was easy, I had clients I worked with before so getting back into recruiting wasn’t difficult at all. 5-6 months into it I felt that feeling of redundancy, I wasn’t excited about the work and felt like I could be using my time more wisely. I spent a few weeks thinking about an exit strategy, and an opportunity occurred where I was faced with a decision. I wasn’t planning to quit, in fact there was no safety net either. It was like jumping off a cliff and hoping the parachute was installed correctly so that it would open when I needed it to. I quit the job, and the only plan I had was to focus on raediate full-time. That was plan A and the only plan. I believed that by taking that leap of faith things would just work out for me, and they have. I’ve been blessed and fortunate enough to say that I work for myself, I have creative freedom and the ability to do what I want when I want. Nothing compares to that. I understand that it’s not for everyone but it’s one of the biggest risks I’ve taken.
