Today we’d like to introduce you to Polina Kalatsei.
Hi Polina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m originally from Kyiv, Ukraine, where I founded Twerk Sisters Club over 7 years ago. What started as a small local class with pretty much my girlfriends only, but quickly grew into a powerful community. From the beginning, it was never just about dance — it was about creating a space where me as a woman, and of course all my students now could feel free, confident, and connected with another women.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the atmosphere we’ve built. Age, background, or body type never mattered. Everyone has always been welcome — I’ve even had moms bring their kids to class! Even though we work with sensual and bold movement, it never felt vulgar. There’s a special energy in our club: it’s fun, spicy, a little cheeky — but always rooted in joy, self-love, and the celebration of being a badass, vibrant woman.
After moving to the U.S., I continued building that same spirit here in Los Angeles and online — and now Twerk Sisters Club brings women together from all over the world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely, the road hasn’t always been smooth — but the struggles have shaped Twerk Sisters Club into what it is today.
In the beginning, it was tough to explain to people that twerk isn’t a vulgar dance , it’s a powerful tool for strength, femininity, and inner healing. I faced judgment, stereotypes, and people not taking my work seriously. But I kept going because I saw how it was changing the women who came to class.
Moving to a new country also came with its own set of challenges: rebuilding the community from scratch, adapting to a new culture, and growing a brand in an unfamiliar environment. But the energy and love this project carries always brought the right people into the space.
Additionally, I saw how I was changing too. I also needed transformation, because in class I always felt something special. And there was always a sense of support — no matter what. We lift each other up during our classes, and that energy has always been my source of strength.
Every struggle reminded me why I started this: to create a space where women can be free, bold, and truly themselves.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Twerk Sisters Club, I’m not only the lead instructor and founder, but also handle everything that happens behind the scenes. From content creation to social media management, I take on many roles to ensure the club grows and thrives. I create all the content for our business page, including promotional materials, choreographies, dance videos, and even full performances for music videos of other artists. Also I just dropped my merch – pink shorts (which is our main color of club) with ‘twerk sister’ sigh on a back. They are so cute.
For me, it’s important to create a space where women can feel inspired and supported. In our club, it’s a place where women come to have fun. Some come with a need for more self-confidence, even though they don’t say it directly, but I can feel it. Over time, this changes, and they begin to feel better about themselves. Some just want to have a good time, others want to learn twerking or the basics of twerking. Some just liked a choreography and signed up to learn it. It all depends on the personal request, and I support everyone on their journey.
I’ve often seen how women who come to classes for the first time eventually become best friends, even though they’d never met before. I’ve also made new friends through my own classes. It’s an incredible feeling — when you feel that strong connection, that special sense of unity.
Through all the content I create, my mission is simple: to ensure that every woman feels like she’s part of something bigger, a movement that celebrates her strength.
In the end, Twerk Sisters Club is not just about dancing. It’s about inspiring women to feel their best, both inside and out. And I’m proud to be a part of their journey.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5 years, I’d love to open my own studio in the U.S. — a space that brings together dance, wellness, and sisterhood. I see myself expanding into a new branch of wellness where movement meets emotional healing and fun. We’ll see, you never know how your life could change, right?)
