Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Coleman.
Hi Peter, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My entire life I have been surrounded by music, with my parents playing guitar and singing, my brother playing bass, and my sister singing! I picked up the guitar at 11 years old! While listening to my dad’s cassettes of Led Zeppelin, Badlands, Dokken, and many more I grew an inspiration to guitar! Along with my family teaching me music and how to play! Ever since then I’ve been playing guitar for about 9 years now and moved to LA in 2023 to attend musicians Institute! While attending Musicians Institute I met so many great people and learned so much! One person that I met while attending was Kyle Rising(former member of Sensi Trails) on the street coming home! I joined his solo project along with Nolan Richards and Jacob Homieo and was given so many great opportunities to play live and gain great experience. During this time I’ve been out networking in popular clubs all over LA including The Whisky a Go Go, The Viper Room, The Troubadour, and many more! With meeting as many people as I can promoting myself and other projects while playing live as much as possible!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of the struggles along the way have been trying to balance everything! The past year and a half I’ve been in school full time, working part time, and trying to be a full time musician! All of these together makes it hard to have time for family, friends, and yourself! While in this time I didn’t have a car so getting everywhere a struggle too!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My profession is a lead guitarist! I play all over Southern California as a work for hire while sticking to my main band (Kyle Rising). I’ve been known for working with some of the commonly known guitar legends such as George Lynch (Dokken), Warren De Martini (Ratt), Rafael Moreira (Pink), Monte Pittman (Modonna), Johnny A (Yardbirds), and many many more! While in the process of making my own music and trying to find my sound! What sets me apart from most musicians and guitarists is my sound and attack to my instrument. I’m very blues based with a melodic touch to my instrument. I try to sound different then everyone else while sticking to my roots.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Some advice I would give to someone starting out in this business is go out and network as much as possible, meet as many people as you can inside and outside your industry so you have everybody on your side! Make friends with the people that run all the clubs and venues so you can get in for free to shows! While doing this work on creating your own sound, look for yourself, touch to your instrument, and what sets you apart from others.
