Life & Work with Patrick Goss

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Goss.

Hi Patrick, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Music has always been a huge part of my life and in my sophomore year of college I started listening to electronic artists like Illenium and Said The Sky and the emotion in their songs really spoke to me and intrigued me to the point of wanting to try to make that type of music myself. So, I downloaded Fl Studio to give it a go. From the first beat, I made I fell in love with music production and it became an obsession for me. I started learning as much as I could through YouTube tutorials and making music whenever I could. What helped me as I started growing musically and getting better was discovering remix competition websites like SkioMusic and LabelRadar. I decided the only way to improve was by making as much music as possible so I entered every single remix competition I could no matter the genre. After about 2 years of learning and entering remix contests with no success, I finally started to place in the competitions. This is when I decided it was time to take my production skills to the next level and I joined the Hyperbits Masterclass. This masterclass was a massive help and really pushed my productions to the professional level I desired. It was also around this time that I started to network through different discord channels with other artists around my size that made the same type of music as me. Through these connections, I started collaborating with other artists and getting songs signed to some smaller Electronic Music labels like AirwaveMusicTV. Through these songs, I started to grow my numbers and released fairly consistently for the year of 2021 and kept building my brand, network of artists, and sound. Once I had a respectable catalog of music and some streaming numbers, I started to reach out to local venues to try and open for the artists that came through Boston. It was through this guerrilla-like marketing of myself that I finally started to land some shows opening for larger artists and that brings us to today!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road, I think it’s something that all artists go through, but I really struggled, and still struggle, with an immense amount of self-doubt. Especially when you are starting out you want your songs to sound like the ones you love and inspire you, but they don’t because you just don’t have the skills yet and have to develop them over time. This can be a very discouraging and frustrating thing to work through but if you stick with it and stay consistent you will slowly get closer and closer to the quality of music you love.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in making music, I think my unique blend of EDM, and Pop Punk sets me apart. I am extremely proud of the progress I have made musically over the years, especially since I started with no music or business knowledge.

What matters most to you? Why?
The quality of music I make definitely matters most to me. I want people to listen to my music and feels the same emotions I feel when I listen to my favorite artists.
