Today we’d like to introduce you to Nurd.
Hi Nurd, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a singer-songwriter from Leimert Park. I’ve been singing since I was three years old and been making music since middle school. I started writing music since I was ten. I made my first recorded song in middle school with my bestfriend/ producer Kruel Ententions in our music production class. I didn’t make my first Ep, “#HEALING” until 2016 after a bad breakup. It was so amazing and therapeutic. My second EP ” Since I Been Gone” was released in 2021. I loved that project because it was symbolic of my journey.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road is always winding. Sometimes you encounter storms, sometimes there’s nothing but sunshine but keep going. My biggest struggle was me standing in my own way. Not trusting my gifts that God gave me. Allowing fear to navigate. But it’s all a part of the journey.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer-songwriter, but I’m also an actress, model, and all-around creative. I have countless ideas. I’m known for music and singing but I want to be known for so much more. I’m proud that I told myself when I was a little girl I was going to be a singer and I really am becoming it. I’m different, I am my truest authentic self and it’s paying off.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
God lol. When I started doing this for the Creator and not just myself, it all came together. Like not trying to be a preacher but you have to rely on something other than yourself because this journey will get hard and you will want to give up but don’t! Keep going. Keeping pushing.
