Today we’d like to introduce you to Nino Bandz.
Hi Nino, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Originally, I was born in a small city in Wisconsin called Racine. Nobody ever made it out of there with music so I always took music seriously so I can put on for the city and move my mom out. I started making music when I was eight years old. I used to freestyle and record on cassette tapes with my older brothers for hours. In high school, I started actually making songs and posted them on youtube and SoundCloud. I wasn’t really taking it too seriously, it really was something I had fun doing. I started really growing a buzz with a dance song I made called “Shake” It had over 10k views on SoundCloud within months. I used to perform it all over the city at parties and that’s how my name got around more. One of my older brothers got killed when I was around 15 years old and it kind of put me in a different mode. He was the one who first showed me how to actually record a song on a microphone. He used to write songs all day and I have seen that passion he put into it.
I started to have that same passion. I left the city by myself and moved to Florida where I started releasing official projects and creating visuals. That’s when I changed my name from Young Nino to Nino Bandz. That’s when I started a different sound that was unique to me and my life. It was many times I wanted to give up. Losing friends, and family issues weighed on me but I never let it show. I used to think if I ain’t didn’t get a certain amount of views I wasn’t good enough. The fans and people who listen to me or watch me every day is what kept me going. Before I made music to fit into what was popular but the new style I was headed sounded more professional and easier to brand. I stayed true to myself and wrote about my experiences. Spending four years in Florida networking and planning my next move I headed to LA with a mission. I instantly connected with DJs and other artists out that liked my style and I started creating a fan base. My goal is really to touch everybody with my music no matter what mood you are in. I want to bring good vibes. I put my all into my music so you can feel my energy when you listen. That is why it is so unique. I just released my newest single “Love Yourself” on Spotify and there is much more content on the way. The next step is to start doing more shows in LA to build that core audience who rocks with me the most. Don’t worry, you will be seeing me soon!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
– Friends changing up.
– Moving on my own, family distant.
– Being my own street team, promoting myself and coming out of pocket.
– Not getting heard by the right people.
– People not believing in me.
– Social media presence is growing, but not where it should be.
I have been able to stay true to myself even though people have switched on me.
It has been a struggle at times, but nothing I didn’t expect and couldn’t overcome.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a music artist and songwriter. My sound is what sets me apart from others. It is original and refreshing. When I show people my music they usually can’t believe it is actually me. They think it is already a famous artist. My sound is new.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Before Nino Bandz was created my rap name was actually “J-Smoove” The Nino in my name Nino Bandz actually comes from how I used to always wear gold when I was in high school. I had a gold grill, gold chain, and gold earrings. I also used to wear the afro back before I grew my locs out. I was In the barbershop one day and my barber cracked a joke and said I looked like Nino Brown from New Jack City. Everybody started laughing but at that moment I got an idea. The joke was funny though, but I stuck with “Nino” ever since then.
