Life & Work with Nina Polunina of Glendale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Polunina

Hi Nina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started painting in 2014.
In my creative store they held master classes. I first observed, then I got involved in the process myself.
I have no special artistic education, but I am constantly learning from the best professional artists.
I started, like many, with oil, then I tried watercolor, and I could not break away. I have been painting with watercolor since 2016 and still find the best courses and learn the technique. I really like to draw flowers and birds.
I don’t give up oil either. My favorite subject is retro cars.
Almost immediately I began to participate in exhibitions, competitions and continue to do so. It is very motivating to grow professionally.
I record videos, have an Instagram and YouTube channel.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My path has not been smooth. More because of internal struggles and insecurities. “I’m not talented enough to be a real artist, my work will never be taken to exhibitions, never be bought”.
But you go through fears and complexes and everything works out. And I am also very lucky to have a family: my husband, children and friends have always supported me on my path.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a member of the Union of Watercolorists of Russia, a member of the Professional Union of Russian Artists
Participant of 29 exhibitions, including 8 solo exhibitions, finalist of 3 international competitions.
My works are in private collections in Russia, Israel, USA, Australia.

I paint in different techniques, but I specialize in watercolor and oil miniature. Watercolor seems to me the most lively, expressive and multifaceted. Miniature is fun, cute, and allows the artist to say what they want to say brightly and quickly.
I also enjoy teaching painting to adults
