Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicolina Ojala.
Hi Nicolina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My story with Hastens started a little over a year ago when I was a new mom looking for a purposeful career in which I would get the opportunity to help people improve their lives in one way or another. I’m from Sweden and grew up sleeping in a Hastens at my grandmother’s house during my summer breaks spent on the Swedish countryside. Then, I didn’t think of the craftsmanship and passion that went into building and designing these pieces – Now, it’s what I love the most about the brand.
I got introduced to Hastens in LA during the fall of 2022, and I now run Hastens’ newest location in the Pacific Palisades. I get the honor of helping clients understand what it means to be truly awake, often for the first time in their lives, on a daily basis. It’s the best job, and it really is that purposeful career I was seeking.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing up in Sweden was just as safe and idyllic as anyone would imagine. I think coming from that kind of sheltered upbringing to moving to Los Angeles by myself at 19 to pursue fine art studies was a shock I probably wasn’t prepared for, but I love a challenge! It’s funny how I now, 8 years later, found my way back to my Swedish Hastens family here in LA.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I work as a sleep consultant at Hastens Sleep Spa in the Pacific Palisades. In short, I guide clients to the beds of their dreams.
Hastens is a Swedish family-owned bed company with over 170 years experience in the craft of sleep. The beds are made by hand in Koping, Sweden, by some of the world’s most skilled craftsmen and women. What sets Hastens apart from others is that the brand uses only the finest natural materials and never compromises quality. The sleep systems have been made in a similar way since 1852, using horsetail hair, cotton, wool, and flax. The dreamily airy, pliable result of a Hastens bed is, in our eyes, a masterpiece of both comfort and design.
Included in every purchase of a sleep system is 25 years warranty, although the mattresses are made to last up to one hundred years with the right care. In California and New York, we also offer a service that is our bed doctors. Our teams of skilled professionals become like family members for all our clients, as they come to massage, flip, and rotate the beds for 30 years, free of charge.
I take pride in the constant dedication to quality and client satisfaction – Our clients are our family, and together, we’ve become the best sleeping family in the world.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Being kind and nurturing towards others has always been a big part of my personal success. I find that the energy we give out, we always get back. It’s important to me, to be honest, passionate, and caring in all that I do, so when it comes to my position as a sleep consultant, I am thrilled as I get to spread that honest passion and care to everyone who walks into our Sleep Spa. Of course, being curious and interested in people plays a big part, too.
