Today we’d like to introduce you to Neila
Hi Neila, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a singer, songwriter, and recording artist. Some would label me an R&B singer, while others would say pop. I prefer to call it R&B-pop, or R&Pop for short. Originally from South Florida, I grew up in the Parkland/Coral Springs area. Raised by Jamaican and Bajan (from Barbados) immigrants, I was immersed in that rich Caribbean culture. I’m also spiritual and college-educated. You could say I’m multifaceted. I’ve known I wanted to be a world renown artist, singer, musician since I began to talk. With the support of my family I have been on that path ever since.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think I fool some people into thinking this is a breeze. But let me tell you, it’s anything but! I grind hard, the tears flow, the doubts creep in – all normal stuff. I just want to be more transparent. People keep asking what label I’m signed to, and I gotta be clear: my team and I are doing this all ourselves. Just imagine what we can achieve with a major label behind us!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Like mentioned earlier I am a singer, songwriter BUT I do so much more than that involving my career as an artist. Over the years, as I’ve discovered more and more about myself, I’ve incorporated it into my artistry. I don’t take “breaks” from creating; I just keep going. I have hundreds of demos that may never be heard, but that consistency has made me a better songwriter, singer, and visual artist. I used to be insecure about my writing ability when I first started making music. At the beginning, I didn’t have anyone to help me. So, out of necessity, I wrote and wrote. Now, I would consider myself a writer – it’s one of my favorite things to do.
I went to college for music business! I soaked up everything I could from those classes and applied it to myself and my brand. I study artists whose branding really makes an impact; everything connects and tells a bigger story. My artist name, “Neila” is “alien” spelled backward, which reflects my whole brand and aesthetic. But more importantly, it had to feel real to me. That authenticity is what keeps my brand alive. It’s just me, through and through. Even if I wasn’t an artist, I’d still express myself this way, this look, it’s all me.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am so grateful for the team I have, they are truly amazing and talented artist in their own right. Some of the most important things I look for in someone before working with them are authenticity, uniqueness and passion for what they do.
My new project, Scars ep is dropping August 26th on all platforms ! so I would love if everyone supported that as well!
