Today we’d like to introduce you to Mustafa Kemal Kurtoglu
Hi Mustafa Kemal, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all began when I first seen 50 Cent’s Candy Shop music video music video when I was about 6yrs old. After I became obsessed with rap/hip-hop culture. It wasn’t until when I was in college when I started actually writing my own songs and recording. I planned everything out, dropped out of college and moved to California to chase after my life goal, to become the next best rapper. Along the way I’ve had many difficulties such as living homeless for 2 yrs, getting incarcerated facing 17 years, all in the hopes of making it to Hollywood one day. Today how I feel is defined by only one word, I’m “blessed”. Currently living in Orange County, California, at 27 years old, I’ve taken my music much serious, and finally starting to see results.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I actually laughed a bit when I heard the word smooth. I don’t think I’ve had a smooth day ever since moving to California to make it as a rapper/hip-hop artist. Homelessness was a big obstacle I had to overcome, just when I thought it was getting better, I got incarcerated and the judge tried to give me about 17 years in prison. I was able to beat my case and only did 2 yrs in the county jail.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I love old school hip-hop, and since we are in 2024, and old school hip-hop has been on the decline, I try to fuse new school rap and old school rap and make my own genre. My lyrics are deep and real as they get, my own life stories and how I see the world. (Even though I brag about my self here and there) I am different because I been rapping for over 10+ years and still have the passion I had the first day I started making music.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Ah man, I have to be more organized and disciplined.
