Today we’d like to introduce you to Montana Coady.
Hi Montana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was studying pre-law at USC and graduated in 2009. I was applying to Law School and a friend’s mother was a diamond dealer and told me that I should look into going to GIA to get my Graduate Gemologist Degree bc I was so interested in the diamond business and had a great eye… I looked into it and decided to go! Upon Graduating from GIA I started to broker and sell diamonds via word of mouth. The business started to grow and I partnered with a friend whose family had been in the business for 30+ years named Bert Culha. We started Coady Culha in 2010. We found an incredible craftsman that we work exclusively with and we do everything from sourcing stones to designing custom settings unique to each customer. Together, we combine our distinct expertise in design and gemstones to create exceptional jewelry that is both emotionally evocative and meticulously handcrafted. We keep our production in Downtown LA at one of the most coveted production houses in the country which also happens to be our hometown.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the beginning, before I met Bert I found it to be a bit of a struggle. The industry is very close-knit and I had no family connections or personal relationships in the diamond business. I would call to source stones and everyone asked me for references in the industry and it was a very long process. Once I partnered with Bert that all changed bc he had all the relationships that I needed and I had the relationships with the customers.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in finding the perfect stone for each client’s desires and designing custom jewelry for them as well. The quality of the stones we sell and the incredible craftsmanship sets us apart from others. Every single piece is made specific for each client. No two stones and settings are the same.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I’m a born and raised Angeleno and I have never lived anywhere else! I grew up in Malibu, went to high school on the west side, went to college at USC(Downtown) and currently live in Santa Monica. I think LA has so much to offer. You can be in a major city and yet drive 30 minutes(without traffic) and be at the beach. Traffic is the worst thing about LA!
