Today we’d like to introduce you to Monisa Ruiz.
Hi Monisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I had always had friends tell me I should get on social media and show my makeup skills. I would brush it off. But later on I was in a situation where I was taking risks and putting myself out there and my dreams. So I went for it and started posting makeup looks with some horror movie reviews. With modeling it was part of putting myself out there. Modeling the goal is for others to see theirselves in me and in that way I hope they feel seen and know that they can do whatever they want and they’re beautiful!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road with being a makeup creator and still being a very small creator. And not getting any modeling gigs for a year. I felt pretty defeated, but I just refocused on just enjoying creating makeup content for me, and focus on the peace and happiness it brings me to create.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I currently started using the title makeup artists after doing a few faces, because the feeling it brought me was peace. I knew after a few times this is what I want to do. I love to create, I love art. But I am also working as a chemist full time. And my side titles are model and makeup artists. I am most proud of all my titles, because they are titles I’ve dreamed about it as a kid. And I’m just in awe that this is my life.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is happiness and my health. If I am in an environment where one of those is being compromised, I can’t stay for long. To me life is too short to not find happiness in a day, whether that it’s the small things just enjoying beautiful flowers or my plant at home growing. My health is something I take serious. When I say health I mean mental, spiritual, and physical. Making sure I am doing okay and doing what is necessary to keep those in a healthy stage. When my health is good, I am happy!
