Today we’d like to introduce you to Miz Korona.
Hi Miz, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I was introduce to music at a very young age by my parents – one of whom was an original member of the 70s R&B group The Floaters. My dad introduced me to singing. My mom introduced me to hip-hop at the age of ten when she gave me a turntable and two pieces of vinyl.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has absolutely NOT been a smooth road. We all know that being a woman in any male-dominated field can be a tough journey. Hip-hop is no exception. Having to go above and beyond to prove myself and my talent at so many venues, stages, and studio sessions has been challenging. Even though there have been a lot of struggles, I am resilient, brilliant, beautiful, and strong.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an all-around creative being. Sonically, visually, entrepreneurially – I cross all mediums. Some of those mediums – like music production and visual art – are new passions. I am most known for being a legendary emcee. God has blessed me with limitless talent. I’m glad to explore and be successful in these genres.
What sets me apart from other people is the fact that I’m not afraid to try new things. I’m also not afraid to fail. Some of my greatest successes have directly correlated with past failures.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
If you have a great personality and work well with others – you’ll attract mentors in ways you might not have anticipated. Stay hungry. Keep shooting your shot. Don’t be afraid to fearlessly represent yourself.
However, if mentorship feels scarce, don’t forget to believe in your own come up. Google and YouTube are great “universities” to explore. When I couldn’t immediately find producers to create the beats I wanted, I taught myself through countless hours of online video tutorials. From how to build a studio to how to create a track, I invested in myself when no one was around to help me. Don’t be afraid to do that.
