Today we’d like to introduce you to Misha Reeves.
Hi Misha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in the south. I was a strange, punk-rock, loud-mouthed ginger absolutely riddled with anxiety. I stuck out like a fly on a wedding cake. I found solace in the world of horror literature and film because it was an adrenaline rush that I could control. It was all far less terrifying than my day to day social anxieties and the other fears that come with my myriad of disorders. When I was 16, I met Daniel Montgomery, and we became fast friends. Little did I know our spooky, little comradeship would lead to some of the biggest moments in my adult life. Over a decade later he would give me a call and ask if I wanted to be a part of this ‘fun, weird show’ he had written. That show happened to be our first season of ‘CREEP’, and I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of JFI productions ever since.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Christ on a bike! NO! Of course, being an actor comes with excruciating lows that we all become accustomed to; Constant rejection, people commenting on your looks in the most devastating ways, auditions that are downright embarrassing, getting so close to a role only to find out you didn’t get it in the end. All the while you’re telling yourself “I LOVE this! I WANT to do this!” It’s absolutely mad. Apart from work-life, my LIFE-life also became quite the unholy cacophony of chaos. I lost my father quite suddenly, then my brother mere MONTHS after. Then life decided to put a cute, little divorce cherry on top on my steaming shit sundae. Honestly, if I hadn’t been working during those times (our long-running show ‘The Willows’) I might’ve just strolled into traffic one day. I can’t tell you how much having such an amazing group’s support saved me.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an actor with a comedy background that now almost exclusively works in horror. I have worked with JFI Productions since 2015, and am probably the most proud of my work as Claudia in THE WILLOWS. I also played the title character of Val in the horror comedy film VAL, which was produced by Social House Films. I’ve been lucky enough to do quite a few other projects with Social House Films as well. They’re the absolute sweetest and are down to get WEIRD!
What does success mean to you?
Let’s be honest… I mean REALLY get real here because that’s a complicated question for me. I want to do WHAT I LOVE and get paid handsomely for it. I mean living in LA and working seven side hustles is SUPER dope (insert eye roll so big it shakes the room here), but imagine doing the job you love and NOT losing sleep over bills? Ya dig? Success to me also means telling the stories that I want to tell with other people who GET IT. Putting art out there that you are PROUD of and that you WANT to share because someone else out there might be deeply affected by it. I want someone to think that whatever story I tell is JUST for them, and it makes them feel something. I want to make art that makes people talk to each other and want to tell stories of their own. Maybe success is just waking up happy every morning proud of what I’m putting out there.
