Today we’d like to introduce you to Miriam Price.
Hi Miriam, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Miriam and I was born in Hawaii, and raised in Seattle Washington. I’m a half Black and half Filipino R&B/Hip-Hop Singer, Songwriter, Model, Dancer, Actress and Influencer. Ever since I was little singing has been my passion. I grew up with a single mother and my brother, and one of the things she would always do was play music around the house and on the radio. It was always something that was “Today’s” hits in R&B/Hip-Hop with artists like Aaliyah, Michael Jackson, Usher, TLC, and many more. So I became really into the music my mother would play, she had a VCR tape that she would record music videos on, and we would watch them when she would get home. I would always sing along to the songs on the radio but it all just came so natural to me. I didn’t realize I had a voice until one day, my uncle and I were singing at home karaoke, and he told me that I had a voice and I should use it. It was then that I kept myself in classes like choir, where I would try out and get solos, and even guitar class in Highschool where I had to learn how to play and sing at the same time. I would always try out for talent shows as well, some dancing with my brother and his hip-hop crew, or just me singing solo by myself. My senior year is when I won the singing portion of the talent show by singing “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys. After High School, I even joined a local singing festival in my city called “Aqua Fest” where I made it through all three rounds and got second place.
A couple of years later in 2017, is when I started to fully pursue my music career. I learned how to make music on my own and started there. I was always good at writing music and sing Melodie’s that I would hear in my head so making full songs was no problem for me. When I released my first project “Mango EP” on SoundCloud an app where you can stream music for free, is when someone reached out to me about performing for their “SXSW” event in Austin, Texas. So my boyfriend and I drove from Seattle to Texas to perform there. Then, a year later while living in Texas for a bit, I got offered to perform at a show in Seattle, so I booked a flight there to perform! After that, my boyfriend and Artist Nazareth and I got inspired to move to California to make our dreams come true. We packed our bags and moved to California. It was amazing to be in Los Angeles, we would look around for any type of opportunity we could grab. We started modeling for small business companies and also recorded features for people working on their own music projects. Then in 2021, is when we started to perform more in LA! We met a group called “Providing Platforms LA” who host open mics for Poets and Artists and have been performing with them ever since. In between that I was working on my own projects musically, I finally got an account through Distrokid to upload all my music to all streaming platforms through stores like iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon Music, etc. I would upload my music on there and then perform them at the open mics. Now, I’m preparing for a huge music festival at the end of this month to perform in, sponsored by Project 43 LA, Providing Platforms LA, and K.U.S.H USA, as well as being a brand ambassador for four different companies, and have been a background actress for four films.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road, I’ve had some trials along the way. Some of the struggles I went through was working with producers who would tell me they didn’t like what I wrote to the beat. I always kept my head held high and would no longer work with people who doubted the skill I have in my pen. There would be times that I would forget my lyrics while performing, but I never made the crowd notice that I did. I’ve got turned away from modeling opportunities just because of my height. I’ve been in big rooms with some great producers who’s worked with iconic artists but only wanted money from me and not to invest in me. But even after it all,
I always had faith and believed in God that he will point me to the right path.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What I mainly do is sing R&B/Hip-Hop music. I’m known very well to have this small body but powerful voice. What I take a lot of pride in is, writing all of my own music. I love making music and have collaborated around the world with artists for free even because that’s how much I love what I do. I’m also known for the modeling that I’ve done, I’ve worked for ALOT of brands big or small from jewelry, skin care to Authentic Indian Clothing.
I’m most proud of everything I’ve done to be completely honest. I moved to a place I’ve never been before and have established many connections and a beautiful community of friends that are like me and just want to see me win. Ever since I’ve been in Los Angeles, I’ve been recognized by people just from my performances, been offered free music video shoots/photoshoots, have been noticed and posted by H&M on their website and made tracks with artists that have made it into video games.
What sets me apart from others I believe, is my good energy. Everyone always tells me how much they admire that about myself whether it’s in person and or on social media. I do consider myself an influencer because I humbly love to make friends and get to know people personally and make those honest networking connections. I have a great fan base just from solely making genuine friendships alone and I cherish that a lot.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me, success is being happy with the work you’ve done for yourself. It’s being proud of accomplishing every goal you’ve hit and to continue to reach the top of your dreams. Success means you kept going with your best foot forward and you never stopped.
