Life & Work with Michelle Carney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Carney.

Michelle Carney

Hi Michelle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
When I was younger, I thought career day was the worst day of the year. Everyone showed up to school excited to share their dream job except me. I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I later spent years traveling the world trying to figure out where I was supposed to be and what I was supposed to be doing. No matter where I went, I always felt out of place. One evening, while in Ohio, with little thought, I signed up for a nonrefundable acting class in Los Angeles. The deal was sealed. Los Angeles was my next attempt at finding a “home.” I showed up to my first class late, without a car, in the pouring rain, having absolutely no idea what I was getting into. Despite the inopportune conditions, something just clicked. It was as if everything I’d experienced in life and all of the qualities I’d developed were meant to equip me for that moment. I finally felt like I was exactly where I was supposed to be.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Name one person who had a smooth road to success. I bet you can’t. I expect the road to reach my goals to be rocky, especially as an actress and model. I’ve struggled with my sense of self-worth in an industry where you’re rejected on a daily basis. I’ve struggled financially to make a living while following my passions. I’ve struggled with societal expectations to pursue a respectable or “real” job. I’ve struggled to determine what my purpose was or if I even had one at all. The more challenges you face, the more opportunities you have to learn, and the better equipped you become to achieve great things. I’m thankful that my path hasn’t been smooth. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be standing where I am now.

We’d love to learn more about your work. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc? What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am both an actress and a model. Within acting, I specialize in comedy, drama, and romance in film/TV. My modeling experience includes a mix of commercial, runway, and editorial. I love to do it all and push the boundaries of who I can become. I am proud of the fact that I was a shy and introverted child from the Midwest, and I’ve now walked runways at New York Fashion Week and had leading roles in films. I chase after any dream I have, with everything I have, no matter how crazy or improbable it is.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I’m happiest when I’m putting my best effort towards reaching my goals. I desperately want to see just how much I can achieve while I’m here. I would hate to get to the end of my life knowing that I had more potential left in me or that I could’ve had a greater impact on the lives of others. I also can’t talk about the happiest version of myself without crediting all of the supportive, inspiring, and caring people around me. I’m blessed to have an incredible community that constantly fills me with love and joy.
