Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele Wise.
Hi Michele, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
At 58, I was experiencing Empty nest syndrome and wanted to find something that I loved doing and something I could turn into a business. I have three boys and I’ve always been the mom who cooked and baked for all the kids! So food seemed like a natural lane for me to be in. I also am obsessed with flowers and love my flower garden! So my love of baking and flowers merged! Blossoms by Michele was born!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I was a stay-at-home mom and after not working for 33 years, it was really hard! I have Massive struggles with imposter syndrome! I struggled with how can I charge for what I created daily for free my entire life! Also, learning all the skills with no instruction was pretty hard! I was glued to YouTube night and day for technical support! I went to cooking school when I was 24, but the rest was all self-taught. In the end, I just went for it and believed in myself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make floral cupcakes! They are made in my home kitchen with so much detail and love. Besides baking moist cupcakes made from quality ingredients, I spend a lot of time mixing my buttercream colors so each order is special to what the client desires. I make succulents to rose gardens! Purple tulips to pink peonies, daisies to hydrangeas! The coloring takes as long as the piping and each cupcake is loaded with detail. . It’s why I’m a one-woman show and do every order by myself. You’re never too old to learn and try something new! Blossoms by Michele is my happy place!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding your community is so important. I have found so much support in the baking community! Reach out and ask for help you will be surprised at the help you receive. I love giving back and helping people who reach out to me.
