Life & Work with Michael Lebron of Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Lebron

Hi Michael, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born here in LA and my family moved to Florida when I was elementary school age. I lived most of my young life there but never felt completely at home. I moved back as an adult as soon as I could and continued my path as an independent recording/performing artist for years as well as pursuing acting. I’ve picked up some small roles along the way and in the last few years have put out music independently with my partner as producer/vocalist duo “All Most Nothing”. I’ve also built a small name for myself in the battle rap circuit, working with several leagues and doing multiple international battles. I’ve also grown an affinity for travel and experiencing new cities and cultures, I made it to 8 new countries last year. And between all that I’ve worked in the service/hospitality industry for almost my entire working life, being a bartender for the last 12+ years. What started as a side gig while I pursued my dreams has kind of evolved into a passion over the years and I’ve really put a lot of focus into growing that aspect of my life. Doing consulting work, crafting menus, and working directly with liquor brands has become a great creative outlet and has opened up a whole new career path in something that I initially looked at as a placeholder for my main goals.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In a hyper capitalist society, without financial resources and solid connections, things rarely go smoothly. Especially when pursuing a comfortable life in the arts. We spend so much time just trying to survive that it’s oftentimes difficult to consistently find the time or energy to work on our passions or personal goals. Not to mention being forced down avenues we don’t necessarily have an interest in, all to facilitate our actual passions. Being an artist or entrepeneur in todays landscape is to be a content creator first and foremost, which can be a full time job in itself. Not even including the personal obstacles like maintaining motivation, time management, dealing with self doubt and impostor syndrome, etc.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My biggest strength and sometimes my biggest obstacle is having multiple paths and passions I’m pursuing at once. Even in music I want to be all things, push myself artistically, constantly explore new sounds and styles, whereas having a consistent or uniform sound is highly encouraged and easier to market. There is always that constant battle between art and commerce.
Of everything I do, whether it’s writing a rap or crafting a cocktail, I think intricacy would be something of a calling card. I feel uncomfortable in simplicity. I want the small things highlight the bigger things. You end up isolating some people, but the ones who really appreciate it will make up for it. You can’t be for everyone. I want to make music for people who LOVE music, not just the casual “background vibes” kind of listener.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m pretty easy to get in contact with on instagram @aliastheaddikt. If the energy is there I’m def open to collab on a business venture, an event, etc. Anyone that wants to support can follow me, stream my music, hire me for an event, book me for a role, or reach out for whatever else they might think I’m a good fit for
