Today we’d like to introduce you to Manya Aggarwal.
Hi Manya, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started dancing as a kid. Wherever I heard music, I would end up bouncing to the beat. It was my natural response to it and that is when my mom saw something in me and then put me in dance classes. Ever since, the rest has been history and my passion for dance opened many doors. Now I have a BFA in Dance Performance and I even booked my first national dance tour.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been easy, a lot of sacrifices, obstacles and self realisations have led to me being where I am currently. I hope to continue on this journey with a strong mind and have grace for myself while I do so.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a dancer/movement artist. I am constantly trying to find more things to learn as I believe in versatility as a performer. My love for hip-hop dance is huge but I also train in jazz funk, heels dance, bollywood, and recently a little bit of Indian classical styles like Kathak and Bharatnatyam
What are your plans for the future?
I plan on working professionally in spaces that expose me to different experiences. I also want to get into modelling eventually and start doing things that would fuel me from within rather than doing things that would look good only on a resume. To be specific, I am planning to work commercially such as doing music videos, stage performances, dancing for artists. Eventually, I see myself with a business in dance. I thrive in spaces with groups as I grew up in a very community-driven environment i.e India. Manifesting a happy career in dance for myself 🙂
