Life & Work with Manasvi Sharma

Today we’d like to introduce you to Manasvi Sharma.

Hi Manasvi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and brought up in Himachal Pradesh, India. I came to the US to pursue a career in acting in 2021. I got my training from Stella Adler Studio of Acting N.Y. and Art of Acting Studio, L.A. I had been in performing arts since childhood and had aspirations of becoming an actress since then. However, coming from a small town, I couldn’t see becoming a Professional actress as a reality. I gained my confidence once I was in Law School. Law school taught me to stand for myself and others. I realized I wanted to be a professional actress in 2018. I graduated from Law school in 2019 and moved to Delhi to do theater professionally. I wanted to hone my craft, thus I decided to join Stella Adler Studio of Acting. After finishing my conservatory course, I have been working in short films, theatre and commercials.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have faced a lot of challenges while pursuing this career. I guess all the challenges I have faced has taught me something unique that I wouldn’t want to trade for anything. My circumstances suddenly changed once I had decided that I wanted to be an actress. Coming from a conservative family, it was difficult for me to get support from them. However, I’m grateful for my family who have allowed and supported me to come this far irrespective of societal pressure. My first-time one-way international travel to L.A. where I have never been before has been challenging. I knew no one in the country beat the city. I went through ups and downs; however I have always believed it to be a blessing in disguise. The journey that I have experienced is unique and personal to me and thus makes it worth exploring. Professionally speaking, the biggest challenge I face is fighting with the minds who cannot see characters beyond their accent, physical appearance and color. I speak with an Indian accent, I’m petite and I’m brown. I take pride in all these characteristics because that’s what makes me a person with a different past. And I just hope someday, somebody will be able to see beyond this and can collaborate with me in making art. I love playing around with scripts which is enough to drive me through facing all the challenges.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My recent career highlights include working on short films and theatre productions. I’m trained at Stella Adler Studio of Acting. I can speak fluent Hindi and English. I strive to work on projects that support a cause or that can have an impact on society. The recent short film “Preet” that I worked in as a lead was on Marital Rape. I felt shackled even thinking about what so many women go through in their lives. However, at the same time, it pushed me to realize why I wanted this story to be told. Preet has been submitted to various film festivals and is still waiting for a response. Another film I worked in as a lead “Inedible” dealt with Pica, a compulsive eating disorder for non-food items. Apart from acting I also have a degree in Law and have worked as a criminal lawyer in India.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My family and friends matter to me the most. I love acting, acting has given me purpose in life and my family and friends have always supported me to come closer to it. For my functioning as an actor, my loved ones have played a pivotal role. Their support makes me dream and live up to those dreams fiercely. I’m grounded because of my loved ones. I believe healthy relationships can help us pacify the hurdles that we face in life.
