Today we’d like to introduce you to Ludan Zhang
Hi Ludan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started in the nail industry in 2017, as gel nails were becoming popular. After graduating from nail school, I worked at a Japanese nail salon for a year, then started my own studio. That year, I was introduced to Russian manicures. Driven by my strong interest in nails and a desire to perfect my skills, I began offering more refined nail services, incorporating techniques such as e-file nail prep and structured (Biogel) manicures.
In 2019, I opened my first nail salon “Atelierludan” in Temple City. To ensure consistent technical quality, I limited the number of nail technicians working at the same time to 2-3 people per day. Later, due to the need to relocate the store, I moved to Pasadena, where I can now serve 4-5 clients simultaneously. Earlier this year, I partnered with someone to open another nail salon in the Claremont area named “ Mirai Salon”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I might be one of the very lucky ones in the nail industry. In 2018, when I started my own studio, the popular Chinese social media app Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book) was just emerging. Thanks to the app support at the time, I connected with many outstanding peers and clients on this app. Even after opening my store, I never had to advertise, and I still reached full capacity. At its peak, clients had to book appointments two months in advance.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Most well-known nail artists have their own unique styles. In contrast, I see myself more as a nail technician. I love so many different nail styles, and I want to learn whatever looks good. My preferences change over time, and I enjoy following the latest nail trends. My special trait is that I can create every type of design beautifully. My clients are always happy and satisfied with the styles I create. My exceptional learning ability has quickly helped me build a large customer base. Every time I update my techniques, I also train the other nail technicians in our salon. As a result, the skill level of our nail technicians is above the market average, and we have earned a lot of recognition from our peers.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Good aesthetics, technique, and quality. The nail art we produce at our salon typically lasts around one month. Our dry manicure ensures more precise pre-nail treatment. The Biogel Manicure, also known as gel overlay, helps maintain the correct structure of the nails, making them less prone to breakage and separation.
