Today we’d like to introduce you to Larry Cartigan
Hi Larry, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My career began in film and technology, working with companies like Bauer Martinez Entertainment, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and HBO Latin America, while diving into the streaming industry and tech innovations.
The turning point came during COVID when I discovered a personal talent for designing motorcycles. This led to the creation of Cartigan Brands, which includes Cartigan Street Rockets, known for its stunning custom motorcycles featured in top high fashion magazines globally.
Simultaneously, my brother Alexander Cartigan was seeing great success with Cartigan Yachts in South Florida. We joined forces late last year here on the West Coast. The success of our Cartigan Yachts West Coast Launch Party, an exclusive but open to the general public was held at a private Yacht Club in Marina Del Rey and featured a 104-foot Azimut yacht! The West Coast Event Producer Team included Larry Cartigan, Alexander Cartigan, Brian Ridgeway and Scott Dylyn Hall. It was the first time such an event was made open to the public allowing for its 300 local attendees (Young Hollywood) to enjoy an Azimut Yacht Lounge never before done in Marina Del Rey. With Alexander Cartigan (A licensed Yacht Broker) handling sales for vessels 100 feet and above, Cartigan Yachts has established itself prominently in the industry.
Building on this events success, we’re excited to launch Cartigan Events, a brand-new company under the Cartigan Brands umbrella. This new venture will focus on high-profile events and new partnerships. We’ve recently brokered a significant deal with Yamashiro’s Hollywood for a series of public and private events. Our plans include expanding our event offerings to feature dynamic experiences in Los Angeles and beyond, starting with events at the iconic Yamashiro’s Hollywood as well several on the water events and beyond.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No road to success is ever a straight line. My journey began in film and TV, where I encountered the challenges of high turnover rates while working with companies like Bauer Martinez Entertainment and HBO Latin America. Transitioning into technology, I faced similar volatility in the industry, developing AI-related products amidst its high turnover.
Separately, Cartigan Yachts, already thriving in Miami under my brother Alexander Cartigan, brought its success to the West Coast. Here, we faced the challenge of raising brand awareness and changing public perceptions about yachting, making it more accessible and engaging for the Los Angeles market.
Now, with Cartigan Events, a new company under my control operating under the Cartigan Brands umbrella, we’re focusing on high-profile events and new partnerships. We’ve recently secured a significant deal with Elie Samaha and Farouk Hadef at Yamashiro’s Hollywood and continue to adapt to the evolving needs of the Los Angeles market.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a graduate from California State University Northridge with a BA degree in Cinema and Television Arts. I began my career as a highly technical individual but always had a deep passion for creativity. My background in the movie industry as an independent film producer, director, and writer allowed me to explore art in various forms. This artistic inclination naturally extended to my work in motorsports, where I see designing motorcycles as creating a stunning piece of art. I often tell other artists that my art just happens to go really fast.
In addition, my involvement these last few months with yachts, which I shared with my brother, combines my love for beautiful design and luxury lifestyle. Educating the public about yachting and making these experiences accessible has been a rewarding challenge.
Now, with Cartigan Events, my focus is on crafting memorable live events. I aim to create not just parties, but immersive experiences that resonate deeply with attendees. The success of our recent events and the positive feedback we’ve received have reinforced my passion for blending creativity with business, and I take great pride in leaving a lasting impact through these experiences.
How do you think about luck?
When I think about the role of luck in business, I believe in creating my own luck. In my experience, success often comes from actively pursuing opportunities rather than waiting for them to come to you.
I’ve never been one to simply stand at a door and hope it opens. Instead, I’ve always made it a point to turn the handle and see what’s on the other side. This proactive approach, coupled with thorough preparation—gained through education, experience, and mentorship—has been crucial in creating my own opportunities. But why stop there, I also enjoy mentoring others and get much fulfillment from watching their success as they navigate through their own personal challenges.
Luck plays a role, but it’s often the result of being prepared and willing to seize the moment when it arises. By actively seeking out and creating opportunities, I’ve been able to turn potential luck into tangible success. Some people might perceive my time to accomplish these things as luck. Truth is I have no time, the little time I do have I spend on those things that matter to me most.
