Life & Work with Lana Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lana Scott.

Hi Lana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been singing since I was a child and grew up in the musical theater and church worship worlds. I always loved country music, too, and found myself inspired by artists like Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes, and Rascal Flatts. As an early teen, I started writing songs and developing my own style using piano and guitar to come up with chords that went with my melodies and lyrics. After finishing high school in Virginia at The Governor’s School for the Arts, I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston where my ambition became much more tangible as I learned how to work with a band and fully bring my ideas to life. I spent a couple of years singing on cruise ships after Berklee which stretched me and taught me a lot as a performer. Following ships, I headed west to Los Angeles where I knew there would be opportunities to audition for bigger platforms. After making it on The Voice last year in 2021, I’m now planning on being bicoastal this year- spending time in both LA and Nashville.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Gosh, to be honest 2020 was a real doozy for me (like most). I went through some serious relationship heartache along with the overwhelming stress of everything happening in the world. I re-evaluated everything including my calling. I was pretty much washed into a clean slate and felt totally surrendered to change direction with my dream of a successful singing career IF that was what was best… but when I prayed, journaled, and seeked, what I found was a new, deeper level of certainty that I’d never had before that this is exactly what I’m meant to do. So I decided to pick-up where I was with what I had by starting a series on YouTube called ‘Front Porch Series’ where I collaboratively covered songs with my local LA friends on my front porch in Pasadena… I just kept thinking about the Bible verse that says, “Whoever can be trusted with little can also be trusted with much.” -Luke 16:10. After I faithfully finished 3 of them, right at the end of the year in December, I got the call from The Voice that would forever change my life. 🙂

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a country singer/writer with a mission to leave people’s hearts just a little more hopeful than I found’em. This world’s a tough place to exist in a lot of ways but music has this incredible power of shifting people’s postures and lifting spirits up and that’s something I’ve always wanted to play a part in. I’m also a Christian, incorporating my faith in the way I write both music and captions. I have a love for country AND worship songwriting and aim to eventually be known as a cross-over artist.

Coming off of The Voice season 21 and getting to learn from THE Blake Shelton himself, I feel more ready than ever to record and release my original music, shooting my shot in the country music world.

One of the questions I was asked on The Voice stage during a result show was, “What do you want people to know and remember about you?” My answer was, “I believe that above all the noise, and above what we do, the way we treat each other is what matters the most. Love really is the most powerful thing in this world and you’re gonna hear that in my music.”

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
For me, it’s persistence. I was told no five times before I was given the yes from The Voice casting. New motto: “Sixth time’s the charm!” 🙂 I knew I could have just given up when I didn’t make it all the way the first time I auditioned, but the fact that I passed the first round and ‘almost’ made it out of thousands felt encouraging to me. I’ve consciously chosen to treat my ‘almosts’ as ‘successes’… Every time I tried out, I made it a step further than the last to the point where the producers started inviting me back. Thank God I said yes because I went on to making the top 8 Semi-Finals! This career is one of the absolute hardest to crack into, and I’m very much still trying to ‘get there’, but I’m grateful for where I stand today and all the progress I’ve made.
