Over the past five years, my nail business has blossomed from a passion project into a thriving venture. Officially launched in 2018, my journey began with a deep-seated love for nail art, fostered during high school where I gained confidence and inspiration from peers. Taking nail classes further honed my skills and ignited my ambition. A pivotal moment in my career came when I met Brenda, a seasoned nail technician at Summit Nail Bar on LaBrea & Stocker. Her mentorship and guidance were instrumental, providing invaluable insights that shaped my technique and business acumen. Brenda’s influence has been transformative, propelling me to where I am today—a proud entrepreneur with a growing clientele and a reputation for creativity and quality in the nail industry.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being in the nail industry for the last five years has been anything but easy. While I have a ton of great days, weeks, and months, there is always bad to accompany the good. With the grace of God the bad times that I’ve experienced were never enough to break me or keep me down: from having a close friend try to report my business, to having to up and move across the state and completely start over with building clients, GOD has carried me and it’s through him and his grace I’ve been able to keep up the momentum I’ve had in business thus far.

As a Black nail technician over the past five years, my journey has been defined by creativity, artistry, and a dedication to excellence in nail enhancement services. Specializing in techniques like hard gel manicures and acrylic nails, I’ve honed my craft to offer clients not just beautiful nails, but a transformative experience. Each design is a canvas where I express my artistic vision, blending trends with personalized touches that reflect my clients’ unique styles. I take immense pride in my business, knowing every appointment is an opportunity to showcase my skills and build lasting relationships. Looking ahead, I’m determined to continue growing and innovating, aspiring not just for success, but to achieve financial prosperity through my passion for nails.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Looking forward, I envision significant growth and evolution in the nail industry over the next 5-10 years. There’s a growing appreciation for diversity and inclusivity, which is empowering Black nail technicians like myself to thrive and innovate. Trends will likely continue to embrace individuality and artistic expression, with technologies advancing in nail enhancement techniques such as hard gel manicures and acrylic nails. Personally, I aim to expand my influence by opening a full-service salon and becoming a traveling nail instructor, dedicated to empowering aspiring nail technicians of all ages to pursue their dreams. This dual approach not only furthers my entrepreneurial goals but also contributes to shaping the future of nail care education and services.
