Hi Kimberly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I embarked on my journey in content creation just over a year ago while maintaining a full-time career. My primary passion lies in creating content, particularly focusing on mini vlogs, beauty, and skincare. Initially, I was an avid consumer of content, absorbing tips and stories from others until I decided to share my own voice.
I began this endeavor from the confines of my bedroom, utilizing an iPhone 13 and a $15 light from Amazon. The initial quality of my videos was quite modest, and I faced significant challenges, including negative feedback and online criticism. Despite these obstacles, I persevered, gradually improving my content quality by repurposing old makeup and investing more in my craft.
Over time, my dedication paid off. I began receiving PR and products from some of my favorite brands in exchange for reviews. Presently, I secure over $5,000 monthly in brand deals, along with gifted PR, which, while not a constant gain, it absolutely surpasses any expectations I once had when starting out.
What began as a hobby has evolved into a part-time pursuit, demanding substantial time, dedication, and patience. Friends and family often commend me for following my passion and encouraging them to pursue their own dreams despite perceived obstacles.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Balancing a full-time job with content creation has indeed been challenging. I had to master the art of managing my limited time effectively. Additionally, I grappled with concerns about how my community, friends, and family would perceive my content. Financial constraints also posed a hurdle, as I initially struggled with the limited budget for investing in beauty products and other resources that seemed essential for success in content creation.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In addition to my work as a content creator, I earned a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology in 2022, specializing in Marriage and Family Therapy. My full-time role involves collaborating with community agencies to support individuals facing mental health crises and navigating challenging life situations.
I take great pride in integrating my expertise in relationships and mental health into my content. Through segments such as “Get Ready With Me” (GRWM) and advice discussions, I am able to offer valuable insights and support to my audience, blending my professional knowledge with my passion for content creation.
