Life & Work with Ki Bae

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ki Bae.

Hi Ki Bae, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started off with my brother’s old iMac at the time. It had Garageband installed on it so I began to record my friends and I over instrumentals. Naturally, I fell in love with making music right there! Since then I’ve taught myself how to produce and write records.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s not smooth. You’re running a business and early entrepreneurship means working in your business as well. Funding is and always will be the catch so if I have any advice, it’s budget well and as efficiently as possible. I have to do everything top-down from production to market alone. You’re also doing administrative work, scheduling, marketing, content creation, and networking. The list goes on. I enjoy it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an artist. The accumulation of all of my experiences has helped me compose my favorite project to date, “30 Days of Night.” I really threw myself into uncharted territory with this one. There are certain riffs and tones that challenged my voice, truly. The production is also something that stands out. J Glaze laced me up solid. When I reflect upon my music, I just think back to recording on laptop mics and headphone mics over beats. Now I’m recording stacks and harmonies of my voice creating complex vocal chains and effects while being humbled by theory.

Sometimes, I wish I could keep some of these moments of excitement and bliss in a bottle. I can only attempt to do so and hope it serves you well someday.

How do you define success?
Still trying to figure that part out.
