Life & Work with Keen Khalid of Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keen Khalid.

Keen, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When it comes to modeling, since young, I’ve always had this dream of wanting to model. I started off fashion blogging, in the early 2000’s, from home in Detroit, MI. I always wanted to actually model, but I didn’t have many resources. Over the years I met photographers and built my portfolio off TFP. Eventually the stars aligned and I was offered to stay in Hollywood, California (of course I said yes). From that leap of faith my modeling career had officially started. I got to LA on Monday and that Wednesday I was offered my first modeling contract. Since then I’ve grown and begun taking modeling a lot more serious; it had finally become something tangible.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No the road has not been smooth at all. Through grace by faith it has been favorable. I think the hardest part of all of this has been doing it alone. No mentor, no close peers, no one to ask advice from. I’ve navigated modeling with my intuition and a lot of google searches. While I am open to collaboration, or even leadership, I am very pleased by my growth while pursuing this alone. I have learned so much from experience that can’t be taught; my lessons learned have been priceless.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Hi I’m Keen and I am an artist first. I consider myself an all around artist. I sing, model, dance, paint, act, design, etc. I am mostly known for my modeling work. What sets me apart from others is my creativity and mind. Since the early years of my life I’ve always felt futuristic and years ahead creatively. Which makes me and my work different from others.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
The thing I like the most about LA, is that there is an easy carefree vibe, but there is still a lot of hustling happening.

The thing I dislike about LA, if you fall while you’re hiking, you’re on your own. . .nature boy lol
