Life & Work with Karla Bacigalupo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla Bacigalupo.

Karla, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a child, I dreamed of becoming an actress after being inspired by movies and TV shows that brought me joy and hope. As I grew older, I began to appreciate the complexity and artistry of films and admired how actors can connect with audiences on a deep emotional level. Although I studied business management in Peru, I participated in various TV productions, commercials, and modeling campaigns with local and international brands. When I moved to LA, I pursued acting training at UCLA Extension, Stella Adler, and Kennedy Brown studio. I find joy in discovering new characters and aim to constantly improve my craft. I have worked on different projects since I am in LA such as music videos, short films, and pilots, and I am currently writing my first own short film. I know that we need to create our own opportunities and always show ourselves as professionals and responsible team players.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a new career in another country is not an easy thing to do. During my first year here, I had two big challenges: the language and the complexity of the US industry. The abundance of information on terminology, procedures, representation, headshots, classes, platforms, and more was overwhelming. It’s crucial to understand where you stand in your career and avoid comparing yourself to other actors. The industry is highly competitive and structured, requiring strategic thinking, determination, and a lot of patience. Uncertainty is inevitable, and it’s easy to feel that you are not doing enough. However, finding a balance between my career and personal life was essential. For me, that means building a strong support system of friends and family who provide clarity when needed.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As an actress and model, I have gained valuable experience in both theatrical and commercial projects. Since arriving, I am constantly working on numerous student projects and personal endeavors. I recently received my work permit and signed with my first agency, Johnson Talent Agency JTA. I am excited to have representation with such a great team. I also am proud of pursuing my personal projects. These opportunities allow me to expand my experience and create my own path forward. I am excited about what the future holds and eager to continue developing as a performer.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
In LA, it’s always a pleasure to meet individuals who are both creative and passionate about their work. In this community, it seems that everyone has a story to tell and a dream to pursue, which is inspiring. On a different aspect, I enjoy the abundance of outdoor activities available, such as visiting the beach and hiking. Finally, as a proud Peruvian, I have high standards when it comes to food, and I’m thrilled to find so many restaurants from different cultures here. However, one area for improvement would be the traffic, which can be challenging at times.
