Life & Work with Kari and Josh Leasure

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kari and Josh Leasure. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Atomic Creamery’s vision was to be a throwback to a simpler time, a destination for friends, families, special occasions, a place for gathering and to be true to ourselves and guests in creating the freshest ice cream. We begin by being committed to serving the freshest, smoothest flavor-packed scoops beginning each and every time with Straus 4 ingredient organic dairy base or Oatly non-dairy base, we then flash freeze with our sourced ingredients — right before your eyes… it’s faster than you ever could believe.

From a small penciled sketch to a brick and mortar storefront Josh and Kari are on a mission to turn fond childhood memories into a household name from the ground up, creating, blending, pairing and churning one of a kind Nostalgic, simple and truly unique creamations one scoop at a time.

Locally we have strived to create not only a destination but to see to it that we are serving the freshest, if not the best, ice cream available. We have also been active in our community and will continue to support first responders, military, local schools and youth sporting programs.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Moving from a 500sqft space to 1900sqft space in year two was a challenge with re-educating our customers that we had moved not closed. On the cusp of our third birthday 2020 brought us COVID and were very quickly in late January through mid-February pivoted to an online sales site and by March 11th, 2020, we were fully functioning curbside and delivery only via online. If anything, we have learned that with contingency plans anything is possible as long as you have laser focus and not shooting a shotgun. COVID taught us that hurdles were just that and we were abruptly running over obstacles quickly and efficiently to a finish line that has brought us to a place where we feel we have succeeded.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are Veteran Owned and operated ice shoppe. We have created a space that is reminiscent of the 1950’s diner but we only serve fresh-made to order ice cream, milkshakes and floats. We have taken pride in our ability to pull off minimal renovations and open up with limited time allotted. We are so grateful that we have the patience to hire and train high schoolers, our gray hairs are easily covered. We take pride in the fact that our store is immaculate so much so that we leave our kitchen door open so customers can see into the kitchen, friends can hop in and say hi!

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For us, success is that smile we bring to youngest and oldest of our customers. Our customers we know by name and watched over four years babies begin school and high schoolers graduate, creating a brand that is recognized across the US and growing.
