Today we’d like to introduce you to Kana Nakada
Hi Kana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started dancing professionally when I was 17 in Okinawa. However, I soon felt limited by working on such a small island. I wanted to expand my experience and offer more to my students. So, I decided to move to LA, where all the greatest dancers and opportunities were. Since then, I’ve had the chance to work and collaborate with so many talented artists.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, it was a mental struggle at first, dealing with the cultural differences and language barrier. But it didn’t stop me from connecting with people and learning new things.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a dancer, choreographer, and dance teacher. I’m proud of the fact that I make a living doing what I love, especially since many people stop dancing professionally at a certain age. What sets me apart is my strong skill set in both street dance styles and ballet-based techniques.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is making people happier. Art isn’t something you physically take with you, but it can stay in your heart forever. Through performing, teaching, and choreographing, I aim to provide people with something that helps them reconnect with their emotions. My hope is that, in doing so, they gain confidence and find a way to release their feelings.
