Hi Juan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, I have always had an attraction to bartending. From asking to sit close to or at the bar in restaurants to have a close view of the mixology to always wanting to create and taste new cocktails. In 2018, I began to experiment more with cocktails. During that time, I was living right across the street of a grocery store with a wide variety of liquor. Every trip to that grocery store meant I would come back home with a new bottle of something I was “missing” in my liquor cabinet. The more variety I had, the more cocktails I would be able to create. In March of 2021, I decided to take my bartending skills to the next level and Black Tux Bartending was born. I have worked in the customer service industry since the age of 17, so I can consider myself a people person, which is always a plus.
I received my California Alcohol Server Certification and began bartending as a weekend side hobby doing small backyard parties for friends and family, who I really appreciate and give thanks to because without them, we would not be where we are now. Every single event we have bartended has been all word of mouth, and trust me, they are until this day keeping our calendar busy. I then began working with other Food and Beverage companies who allowed me to bartend and bar back different social events, concerts and well know music festivals that tested my knowledge and all taught me new things. Bartending those events gave me an inside on how to bartend on another level and showed me things I now implement to Black Tux Bartending.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any business, there will always be minor setbacks, but you learn as you go and as I always tell our bartenders, you learn from your mistakes.
