Life & Work with Jesse Cortez of Simi Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Cortez

Hi Jesse, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been a musician since I was a kid. I first picked up the drums at the age of 9, and then I started playing in church because my parents, who are very religious, encouraged me to. In middle school, I added the trumpet to my repertoire. Once I got to high school, I began joining local bands until I eventually formed Sick Minds with songwriter/guitarist Steven Herrera. After high school, I pursued audio engineering and freelanced as a musician. Around that time, I started collaborating with local talent Daryl Salad. This led to opportunities to work with many artists and eventually open my first music studio/business, The Haunted House. Although The Haunted House dissolved as a brand in 2024, the physical studio continued to thrive. Currently, I’m eagerly anticipating the release of several projects from The Haunted House. Today, my focus is on making my mark as a songwriter and producer, and I’m excited about the future!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not really. I’ve been playing instruments since I was young, so alongside wanting to learn how to play, I also had a strong desire to write songs and express myself. Balancing all these aspects was quite challenging, especially being brought up as a musician. I’ve definitely struggled to maintain personal relationships outside of work due to the level of commitment involved.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m all about producing music as authentically as possible. When I collaborate with other artists, I really try to let the music speak for itself instead of forcing anything that isn’t there. It’s all about capturing that genuine vibe!

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
