Life & Work with Jennifer Wells of San Pedro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Wells

Hi Jennifer , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My passion for photography began at a very young age. I was fascinated by my stepdad’s film SLR camera and would always ask to use it when he had it out during events. Those early experiences ignited a curiosity that has only grown over time. My first camera was a Polaroid, and I cherished it. I would stage pretend photoshoots with my friends, imagining myself as a professional photographer.

When my daughter was born, my love for photography deepened. I got my first point-and-shoot camera when she was just a few months old, and by the time she was two, I had invested in my first DSLR. Since then, I have been on a continuous journey of self-learning, growing, and honing my skills.

Photography is more than just a hobby to me—it’s an art form. Instead of a brush and canvas, I use my camera, with the world serving as my canvas. I am particularly drawn to the intricate aspects of photography, from mastering lighting and posing to understanding the technical details.

I specialize in family, maternity, and newborn photography, capturing precious moments that families can cherish forever. When I’m not working with clients, I enjoy giving back to my community by volunteering with local pet rescue organizations. I take professional photos of their animals to help them stand out on websites and social media, increasing their chances of finding loving homes.

Photography isn’t just what I do—it’s a fundamental part of who I am, and I am always eager to learn and grow in this ever-evolving craft.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road for me. I have had to take a few breaks here and there due to family situations or health issues. Every time I had to take a break I pretty much had to start all over again with the business aspect.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in family, maternity and newborn photography. I am hoping to get into wedding photography this year. I am most proud of learning everything I have on my own. There has been a lot of trial and error along the way. What sets me apart is my compassion and customer service. I am very understanding and go out of my way for my clients. I love to make sessions fun and laid back. I never want anyone at a session feeling like they don’t want to be there or that it’s a chore. I also tailored each session to each individual client. I offer a client area on my website that helps with everything from what to wear, how to coordinate outfits, props, and more.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that a lot of people don’t know about me is that I have something called POTS- postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. It’s a condition that effects blood flow and your heart rate. Luckily it hasn’t effected my work in any way.
