Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Shepard.
Hi Jennifer, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am born and raised in the desert area. Grew up in Palm Springs. My grandparents owned an Italian Deli Downtown Palm Springs. Growing up with a single mom, working with family was my core foundation. I went down the wrong path and ended up getting sober when I was 22. When I got married and started I family I decided to go to beauty school to become an aesthetician so I can work in the spot industry.
Trying to make ends meet. I decided to do an add-on service of eyelash extensions. Not very many people were doing this service in the desert area, so I went to the LA area and trained for eyelash extensions. I came back and practice on everyone and anyone who would let me. A few years later, I was so busy doing eyelashes. I had to stop doing facials. I ended up getting a 1300 square-foot salon where I could train girls because I was booked out so far. Last year I expanded into a 2500 square-foot (Salon) Livia Lashes now has a professional line of eyelash extensions, I train for eyelash extensions, and I have 8 lash artists that work at my salon. I’m so extremely grateful for how far I have come, and I feel honored that you have asked to hear my story.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Obviously one of the biggest struggles along the way was surviving through a pandemic in the beauty industry. We were definitely not considered essential. I really thought for a minute I was gonna lose my salon that I have worked so hard to build.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do individual eyelash extensions and I teach courses on eyelash extensions. I love walking people through building a career in this industry. I am super passionate about the beauty industry and how far you can grow. And watching girls succeed and being able to mentor them is definitely my passion.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
It’s not about the money, it’s about giving back and being there to help people grow.
