Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Cervelli.
Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a small town near Philadelphia, and I have been an artist since I was a child. My early travels during middle and high school as an exchange student to Australia, Italy, and England fueled my creative and environmentalism spirit for a program called JEM – Joint Environmental Mission. I fell in love with metal smithing while attending the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia, where I earned my BFA in Metals & Jewelry. The beauty of the South inspired many of my first designs, and throughout my countless travels, I draw inspiration for jewelry. I believe art is meant to initiate thought and emotion. Jewelry is an object of beautiful adornment but also an object of deeper meaning; jewelry can be powerful. Jennifer Cervelli Jewelry is meant to make the wearer connect to the artwork. I am motivated by this connection and helping you feel the power of this connection. After graduating from the Savannah College of Art & Design in 2007, I worked for various, amazing designers in the Bay Area, California before moving to Fort Collins, Colorado to start focusing solely on my own jewelry line. The beauty of the Rocky Mountains and the incredible scenes in Colorado are still very dear to my heart and continue to influence my designs.
I moved to Los Angeles, California in 2012 where I currently reside. Each piece is individually hand-crafted with love in Hermosa Beach, just a few blocks from the gorgeous Pacific Ocean alongside darling Dasher, my sweet blue heeler Australian Cattle dog.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not! After graduating college in 2007, I entered the work field in an economic recession and I was lucky to find a job working for a jewelry designer in Oakland, CA, and I spent the next 10 years working for different high-end jewelry designers, doing freelance work on the side, hustling my own jewelry business on weekends, and worked as a cocktail server at nights. In 2017 the company I was working for closed, so I took it as a sign to take the next 6 months to see if I could launch Jennifer Cervelli Jewelry as my only full-time job. I got accepted to have a booth at my first wholesale trade show in Seattle and this really helped built my confidence in my brand and start the wholesale side of the business. The wholesale side grew into having about 150 stores carry my jewelry- and I work on these important relationships to continue to support my business. Fast forward to 2019/2020 and covid hit. My business actually did really well with e-commerce during these 2 years of covid, of course, a scary time, nonetheless. I also spent the extra time at home to get my company certified as a California Certified Green Business, which has always been important to me! We use all recycled metals and sustainable materials with our shipping and studio practices. Business is a roller coaster of ups and downs, and each step is important no matter how small.
