Today we’d like to introduce you to Jemma Wiltshire
Hi Jemma, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always had a passion for art and design, but after finishing school, I found myself stuck in an office job. To broaden my horizons, I completed a diploma in business management. However, I dreaded going into work each day and knew I needed to pivot to something I truly loved. That’s when I decided to go back to college to study Graphic Design.
Soon after starting my studies, I launched a website and began freelancing for various businesses, taking on any job I could to build my portfolio. I also worked at an agency to gain additional experience. Over time, I worked for several agencies but found it challenging to grow my own business while maintaining a full-time job.
In 2023, I made the bold decision to go all-in with my design business and stop working for agencies. This allowed me to showcase my work in my own portfolio. Today, I have established my personal brand and work with clients both locally and internationally.
I still pinch myself that I get to create beautiful designs every day for amazing entrepreneurs. It’s a dream come true. I encourage anyone considering starting a business to take the risk, no matter how scary it may feel, because it is truly rewarding.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I experienced many challenges and often learned lessons the hard way. The beauty of firsthand experience is that these lessons stay with you. Like many new service providers, I didn’t earn enough in the early stages to go full-time. I undercharged, dealt with non-paying clients, struggled to find new clients, and constantly felt busy.
I quickly realised that to succeed, I needed to implement effective processes and measures. Over time, I strengthened my contracts and improved my ability to communicate boundaries. This included setting clear expectations and no longer responding to requests outside of business hours.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m all about delivering one-of-a-kind creative design that completely transforms businesses. With over eight years of expertise in strategy, branding, logo design, SEO and websites, I’ve been able to help more than 130 businesses.
My main focus is to help businesses attract their ideal clients, make meaningful connections, and become industry leaders. To achieve this I offer value based packages, VIP design days and always over deliver on the scope of works ensuring the client has a fantastic experience.
By helping businesses stand out with professional design they actually see results, refer more business my way and become a long term client.
My approach to design and business sets me apart from a typical agency. By working directly with me, my clients can be assured that I will dedicate as much time as needed to create something truly exceptional.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up was an adventure, as my family moved around various locations in Australia, embracing new experiences and environments. I was always a creative and adventurous spirit, deeply passionate about art, which culminated in receiving the top of class award for art in high school. My love for technology and the ocean further fueled my imagination and curiosity. I enjoyed a happy childhood surrounded by friends and our loyal pet dog, each day filled with laughter and exploration. These experiences have shaped my unique perspective and continue to inspire my work and life.
