Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazz LeiAmora.
Hi Jazz, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born to immigrant parents from the Philippines in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada. I began classical playing piano with the conservatory at the age of 6 years old. That foundation of music continued through my childhood and gave me the base of musical theory and musicianship that carries on within my life today.
Songwriting came naturally to me as my beloved piano teacher entered me to compete in the national Kiwanis festival with my piano compositions. I was awarded 2nd place nationally and first place regionally. Songwriting was a new outlet and avenue to process life experiences and gave me a therapeutic avenue to work through teenage angst and emotions. At 15 I began playing acoustic guitar and now the love of music has translated across many instruments including Celtic Harp, Harmonium, Classical Guitar, Crystal Singing Bowls, Looping and most importantly voice.
My spiritual development started in my twenties with yoga, energy work certifications, nutrition, dance and meditation. When I realized my anxiety and depression had a hold of me during my university years I began to deepen in my spiritual studies with Kundalini Yoga which led me to train as a yoga teacher in India by the time I was 30.
Ive done musicals, played in bars and none of it really fueled my soul. My truest expression musically didn’t surface until my first Ayahuasca ceremony in Santa Cruz in 2013. Meeting myself in that space and expanding multidimensionally in my mind, heart and body helped me to release long held insecurities allowing for self love to bring a new found confidence to the gift I was given to share with the world; my voice, my songs, the music I channel from beyond.
It’s been 35 years since I first began to formally study music, lifetimes of singing and creating weaving sound and two decades studying and sharing devotional/spiritual music. It began with kirtan and Bhakti chanting and has now evolved to working as a professional sound bath facilitator and musician in ceremonial plant medicine spaces/yoga retreats around the world. My studies have spanned from the jungles of Peru with the Shipibo tribe to the Amazon Jungle in Acre, Brazil where I dieted with the Yawanawa Indigenous tribe in the summer/24 for a full month.
During the covid pandemic I travelled to Peru to study with a Shipibo shaman in his 70’s, where I dieted the Bobinsana plant and took her on as my teacher alongside with Grandmother Ayahuasca. This plant brought great healing to my heart, healing all the traumas of the past and the past of my lineage. It also brought incredible creative energy which brought forth my debut album ‘Om Pachamama.” The travel, the jungle, the medicine, the tribe, the animals and the experience all helped me to reroute my life to alignment with my purpose: to bring healing to the planet with my gifts which care love, compassion, creativity and music. I poured my soul into that album and took a year to record before releasing. It is on all streaming platforms with one music video accompanying my song, “Butterfly.”
I am currently living in Santa Cruz, California where I serve the community with ceremonial sound baths, vocal activations and women’s circles. I travel frequently around the country as a medicine musician and sound/meditation facilitator for plant medicine ceremonies, yoga retreats, corporate retreats and conventions. I recently got signed to W1SE Records in San Diego where I’ve already recorded another single and had some features on intentional hip hop songs. I’m very excited about how my path is unfolding with my career and music and am quietly dreaming up new projects with my offerings. The authenticity of my offering is that my voice, my best instrument, is in service to being used in a sacred way, inspiring connection within and to the unseen realms. May my path of service drive my actions to fulfill by soul purpose, my dharma.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am so grateful for my spiritual work to help me through my career as a sacred musician. The path has opened quite effortlessly, yet my biggest struggle has been the business end of what I offer. I have a lot of opportunities, though I know I could grow more if I had a better platform for my offerings (website, email list, etc).
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a sound bath facilitator, I like to call myself a “Sacred Soul Sound Musician/Facilitator.” I am a singer, a songwriter, a multi-instrumentalist and ceremonialist. I share my music in weddings, plant medicine ceremonies, conventions, retreats, festivals, and intentional gatherings. My most exciting offerings have been vocal activations and floating sound baths. I get the vocal activation curriculum from my plant medicine meditations which help me understand how to help people open their voices and express what’s inside. The floating sound baths have been deeply powerful to all participants as I also offer the option of non psychoactive amazonian medicines to complement the experience. With there being a greater saturation of Sound Healers at this point in time, I focus on my specialty of study which is devotional music, channeled sound, amazonian plant medicines, holding space in a ceremonial way and of course offering sound journeys including yoga Nidra guided meditation/hypnosis, a myriad of sounds and instruments and medicine music.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I am not exactly the biggest risk taker, I flow. I think this has been to my advantage as well as to my detriment. I magnetize and now I’m working more towards taking action in my business development to take my career to the next level. The biggest risk; leaving my old life behind and opening into this personal business of curating sound for a living! So thankful it’s taking off!
