Life & Work with Jaymes Bullet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaymes Bullet.

Hi Jaymes, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Creating music both saved and transformed me as a young person. It gave me a key to survival when I needed one. It allowed me to invent and empower myself – and in doing so, find my audience and my family. I’m a solo female recording artist. I sing, play, write, produce. I’m self-taught. I began recording and performing under the name Siren in the late 1980’s in Atlanta, often on the bill with RuPaul (yes, he had a band. Relocated to Manhattan early 90’s where I continued to hone my writing, play some legendary clubs like Tunnel, Limelight, Pyramid, and record a string of singles at remixer/producer Eric Kupper’s studio. I moved to Hollywood just prior to 2000 to record my first full-length album under the name Jaymes Bullet at The Studio at Sunset Marquis Hotel. Entitled Anteros Bullet: Dead On, the ten song cd was released in UK+US (via short-lived indie Trust Records) to great reviews.

The massive impact of 9/11 and all the derailments that followed can’t be understated, but ultimately, as I continued to write and record, my tracks caught the ear of LA Music Supervisor Howard Paar who wanted to feature several songs on hit series “The L Word”. In subsequent years, I relocated to New Orleans, a city I’d always gone back to, to create the album Bayou Noir Vol 1. The album’s hit song “In Your Grave” featured prominently in Universal’s film “Vampire Academy” (2014). Bayou Noir Vol 1 was recorded at Fudge and Esplanade Studios and highlights some of Nola’s brightest talent. Recently, the new Netflix series “Sex/Life” included a remix of an earlier track “Dangerous”, which is also now available for streaming. Right this minute, I’m insanely excited for the upcoming release of my latest songs, “When The World Comes Apart” and “Velvet City” – available 10/31/21. This new material melds the best of my past and present in a really powerful way.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
What life worth traveling is smooth? Thrilling, tragic, beautiful, dark, colorful…yes. Not always rewarding. Very rarely fair. Just always worth it. Our struggles are built-in.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Oh, yes, I’ve been working on an anthology-type book for a while now, and with the input and encouragement of some uber talented friends, it’s nearing completion. The book will contain Lyrics, Poems, Photos, Artwork and a few surprises… Special thanks to Pirate’s Alley Faulkner Society in New Orleans for their inspiration. Also, I designed a very cool official merch line that you can access through the website. Gear up with exclusive artwork! This wouldn’t be complete without thanking Gina Devello for her endless love and encouragement.
