Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake Isham
Hi Jake, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always had a deep passion for storytelling and performance. I grew up acting and performing, but by the time I was 16, I realized my true passion was behind the camera. That’s when I decided to pivot and pursue directing. I went on to study at Chapman University’s renowned Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, where I honed my craft and developed a solid foundation in filmmaking.
After graduating, I took the leap into freelance work, starting as a videographer and photographer. Over time, I transitioned into building my own creative agency, where I had the opportunity to work with incredible brands like Travis Mathew and 5.11. Through this journey, I’ve been fortunate to help produce content that has amassed over a billion views across various platforms.
More recently, I’ve shifted my focus toward film production. In just the past six weeks alone, I’ve completed 11 short films, marking a significant milestone in my career. Today, I’m proud to run a creative agency while also managing a production company dedicated to creating high-quality, impactful films.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road definitely hasn’t been entirely smooth, and like most creative paths, it’s been filled with challenges and learning experiences. Early on, one of the biggest struggles was figuring out what to do next—finding clarity on my career direction. I knew I wanted to be in filmmaking and photography, but the industry is vast, and it took time to narrow down my focus to what truly aligned with my passions and skills.
Another major hurdle was learning how to make money as a filmmaker and photographer. In the beginning, it felt like a constant hustle, juggling various side gigs and trying to build a name for myself. The challenge was balancing creative passion with the practical need to pay bills, and I quickly realized that the business side of things—negotiating contracts, pricing, and managing clients—was just as important as the art itself.
Finding clients and building a reputation took time. There were many days of uncertainty, especially when you’re first starting out and still establishing credibility. Networking, word of mouth, and consistently delivering high-quality work helped me build relationships, but it was definitely a gradual process. I had to be persistent and proactive, reaching out to companies, pitching ideas, and showing my value.
Along the way, I’ve also had to deal with self-doubt and the constant pressure to “prove” myself, especially in a highly competitive industry. But each challenge has taught me something valuable, and looking back, I’m grateful for the perseverance it took to get through those tough moments.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a filmmaker and photographer, and at the heart of my work is storytelling. I specialize in directing—whether it’s through the short films I create, the social media content I produce for clients, or the fine art photography I capture. Each project, regardless of the medium, is an opportunity to tell a compelling story in a unique and meaningful way.
What I’m most proud of is the art I create. Every film, photograph, and piece of content reflects my passion for visual storytelling and my dedication to pushing boundaries. Whether it’s a cinematic short film that explores complex human emotions or a branded social media campaign that connects with audiences, I take great pride in making work that resonates with people on a deeper level.
I think what sets me apart is my versatility. I’m able to move between different types of storytelling—whether it’s commercial, fine art, or narrative—and bring the same level of creativity and depth to each project. I also have a strong understanding of both the creative and business aspects of filmmaking, which allows me to deliver exceptional work while meeting the practical needs of my clients.
