Today we’d like to introduce you to Isis Woodruff.
Hi Isis, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in San Jose, CA, and began dancing at the age of 3. I continued to dance at the studio and eventually on the dance team at my high school. At the age of 18, I decided to move to southern California to pursue a career in the dance industry. I landed in Costa Mesa, CA where I was on the dance team at OCC for two years. Around 2014 I auditioned for Bloc Talent Agency and was signed for about a year. After that, I signed with MSA and have been since that time. Since then, Ive had the opportunity to dance for Dua Lipa, J-Lo, and Grimes. I’ve also created friendships and connections with people outside the agency that have also given me the opportunity to dance for Wiz Khalifa and Big Sean. Ive been a part-time coach for a high school dance team in Camarillo, CA for about 5 years as well. I love all things art and began experimenting and selling my art to keep me sane through the covid lockdown.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Learning how to navigate within the dance industry. How to present yourself at each different audition, how to communicate and create a relationship with your agents and other people within the industry or on each specific job. Also learning about your rights as a dancer and the resources available to people who work within the entertainment industry.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
This is a tough question for me. As a person with severe ADHD, I’ve become a jack of many trades over the years. Overall, I enjoy being creative in any way it presents itself. I love when my friends ask me to be a part of their projects which have allowed me to experience a range of new things like acting and modeling.
I’d have to say I’m most proud of my growth as an artist. I always loved art as a kid and sort of put it on the back burner when I got more into dance. When covid hit and we were put on lockdown I knew immediately that it would be the perfect flame to rekindle as a creative outlet while stuck inside. It eventually snowballed into me taking over the living room in my apartment (with 2 roommates) for months at a time to do some fairly large projects.
Any big plans?
I am currently pursuing a degree in Sports Medicine and hope to work as an athletic trainer for a college or professional athletic team in the future.
